I've been a good boy this year and it's finally my birthday so today I got my reward: Smith 66-8.

I have been looking at these for some time. Very nice. They feature
lock up on the crane instead of the ejector rod and 2 piece 4.25" barrel.
This is a new design for S & W. I am jealous. Happy Birthday:):):)

So, Smith &Wesson finally copied Ruger's system. About time. I still think the GP-100 and SP-101 are built sturdier than the comparable Smiths. And I have owned several of both over the years.

This was my impression in asking around while I was shopping and going down the home stretch, I was convinced I was getting the GP100. Then I asked a gunsmith. His response, "Both are good guns and equally reliable but the Smith will be easier to tune." Good enough for me. No buyer's remorse here.
