What's the deal with the savage part? Does that mean that Savage made it?

No idea on the lend-lease part, and/or why it says US Property? I should be able to get it for about $700.

Yes. I believe Savage made these.
Britain needed guns.

And since we were neutral but able to lend and lease military equipment. [And build a crap load of guns]
The rifles were marked US Property. Just to cover our arse.
After all. How can you lend military equipment you don't own. ;)

Well, I guess it honestly depends on how much it is, but this is one of the nicest Savages I've seen.
I'm not smart enough about these to tell you if it's got "wrong" parts on it, but it looks like it has the right stuff. this is a gun that would be nice to shoot and show off.

Is that rear sight correct for a '44 Mk1* version?

From my inspection, it looked like most if not all the parts had an S on them.

I'm a bit out of the loop, price wise. It seems high, but it's been a while since I priced these. However, it's probably worth top dollar because of it's condition, what ever top dollar is.

That does seem to be fairly top dollar, but the condition is certain very good.

There was a US Savage Enfield in the C&R classifieds here on NWFA a few weeks ago for $600. It looked about as nice as the one you found. I'd love to own one again but the .303 is expensive to shoot.

Found the advert, looks like it sold, also looks like an older Mk1* as it has a ladder rear sight, no guarantee it wasn't issued but looks good condition. This one i'm looking at is a late 44 model, with one of the links above suggesting it wasn't 'adopted' until 46.

Also looks like it has Thailand ( Siamese ) markings on the receiver and butt stock.
Neat rifle and a nice variant to No.4.
In addition to the Lead -lease guns .... Savage made 'em till late in the war , 'cause we weren't being bombed and England was and or in a re-build the buildings mode.
