I called in last week to check two firearm purchases and ensure the weapons were not stolen.

The operator asked for my phone number, adress, and name.
Gave him the serial numbers and they came back clean.

Then i got to thinking. Where does this lovely information go once I get off the phone.

So i called back and asked, the response was slightly concerning.

"Well, i am not quite sure, I think they hold on to it for a while and eventually it gets deleted"

So much for having my guns "off the books"
I would like to know where the info goes and/or is stored.

anyone know a bit on this topic?

they want your address and phone number, because if the weapon is showing stolen, they are going to come to your house and ask you to give it to them, so they can get it back to its rightful owner. and i suppose there is a chance they could charge you with recieving stolen goods, depending on what ever proof you might have to convince them otherwise.
