Missed opening day 9-16 but at it at 0 dark 30 this morning. Nice to have minus tides at the beginning of the season.

Released a king right across from the launch before I could even get the third rod out!!! 😳

Continued down river bucking the tide til it turned to incoming and started to get bit till 10 & it died off.

Trolling to the boat ramp, tide has fizzled out.
Tan one rod with cut plug herring all day and it finally caught the last Jack.
My cut pluggin skills are still intact.

So in essence all three of the rods used got bit at least once and brought in fish to net and bonked.

Now after bestowing all the glory of being a world-class fisherman, cough cough (BS) I've been working on the boat trailer lights.:eek::eek::eek:

What a PITA that is after a hard day of Captaining the FV: Bloody Decks, fighting fish, cleaning said fish, launching and retrieving said boat…
Lawdy, a fisherman's life can be tough at times…

Well folks, sometimes you're the windshield and sometimes you're the bug…
Had high hopes that the full moon would help get som more fish in the river but it did not work. No bites at all today but we saw a few small ones caught so done before noon… Also there were very few seals in the river today versus a lot yesterday. Very frustrating after yesterdays success but it was a nice day for a boat ride.

Bummer. Lots of fishing voodoo behind the why of it. Should've added some salmon roe to your scrambled eggs before you hit the H2O.

As I understood there never was a historic run of Coho in The Willamette. Willamette Falls was too high for coho to pass because they come into fresh water in the fall when water is low. No run of Fall Chinook either. A fish ladder was built at some time with the paper mills at the falls. Tributaries below the falls had wild runs. The Clackamas for one. YAY to mankind for allowing a run of hatchery coho above the falls. They usually don't want to do that, trying to stay all historic and crap,

It's probably the micro plastics and global warming. Pretty soon the fish will be bigger than the boats trying to catch them.

Yesterday I had a weird incident after fishing. I didn't realize the cause of it until I got off the water.
First off, after we stopped fishing for the day, we stowed all the gear and using the big motor to get back to the ramp, it would not get on plane!!! I stopped to make sure that I didn't have anything hanging off the boat like a drift sock, sea anchor (which were not use, stranger bubblegum could happen) or that the kicker motor wasn't all the way up, which nothing seemed out of the ordinary at all.

Started it up, same thing it just will not get on plane so I had my fat buddy get up to the front of the boat and was able to get it on plane, kind of like weight distribution for my under powered 90 horse jet on an 18' Jetcraft Yukon.

Got home and pulled the plug like always expecting no water but Lord have mercy, water poured out like nobody's business for almost 10 minutes.

I had only used the washdown pump to spray off scales from the Coho that beat it self to death in the floor of the boat and I know for a fact that much water coming out of the plug did not come from the hose.

A buddy of mine came over and crawled up under the boat and said he did not see anything visibly wrong or any wet areas from a leaky hull, which was all dried off after a 30 minute drive home.
I did not hit anything in the water or at the ramp, I think I would've felt that.

The only thing I can think of is the seal on the inlet for the washdown pump went belly up, it's not cracked or damaged. What else could it be???
Is it a one way valve?

This weekend I'll take it down to the boat ramp and just stick it in the water still on the trailer and see if I can see or hear water coming through the washdown pump area.

So obviously, I am not going to go fishing until I figure this problem out. :(

Friend's boat was leaking from the keel pretty bad this season. Has an aluminum boat. Live wells and the such are notorious for leaking too. Check your drain plug for damage to the o ring. All I got without seeing your boat..

The only problem I ever had with a drain plug was being a dumb bubblegum and not putting it in when launching. You definitely know right away when that happens. L O L
That being said, this problem is really bothering me since it crept up suddenly. Stuff happens lightning fast on the water.

Well I went fishing yesterday and there was no water coming into the boat at all so I am figuring that the water came in the boat as we were backing up to retrieve snagged lines instead of spinning about and retrieving them. I am so relieved.:oops::oops:
