went with a fixed 3x prism on my "game gun", works well....have a holosun 503 on my other AR, one of the few dots that didnt "star bust"..thinking the "circle-dot" reticle helps.
If I was to do another, 1x prism would be first choice
For your pistol get Holosun with a Circle Dot. Get shake-awake

I have astigmatism.

Being target focused and placing the dot on the focused target helps.

You will know you are being target focused when the dot appears to calm down and not be jittery.

Pretty much all pistol dots are blobs for me, some better than others. I have looked at/shot most.

In carbine etched and expensive is currently winning.

The way to test to see if you have an astigmatism, before you spend any money on a red dot sight, is to simply look at a red LED across the room, closing one eye at a time to test each eye.

A red indicator LED on your television will work.

If you see more than one red dot from either eye, you have an astigmatism in that eye.

I have an astigmatism in my right eye, so I only use scopes with red dots on my rifles, such as the Steiner 1X4 scope.

For my pistols I only use iron sights and green lasers.
It doesn't really work like that lol.

I have years worth of eye exams proving that I have an astigmatism but I can perform this "test" and the LED is nice and crispy with either eye.

There's a ton of factors that can change the clarity of a red dot for someone with an astigmatism.

The focal point of every astigmatism is different, and constantly moving, so what is clear one day may be blurry the next or even the same day if your eyes are tired. When "corrected" by glasses, it only works if you are looking straight through them. If you are looking through an upper part of the lens, as one does when trying to see through a rifle scope, then all of that correction is gone and your dot will be blurry AF.

Reticle design and position matters.

While not a golden rule for the above mentioned reasons, in my experience the holosun reticles have consistently been the most crisp.

Not far behind them is aimpoint and trijicon in the smaller reticle sizes.

The EoTech EFLX is pretty good as well in regards to clarity, but I haven't heard great reviews in regards to it's reliability.

Red dots are not always clear, look like a comma, even after getting corrective lenses. My accuracy suffers from not seeing exactly where the dot is. I now use a magnifying scope on some of my long guns for accuracy. The prism scope works great for my astigmatism, too.

You can get prism glasses that will work as well. I wear them now that I have given up wearing contact lenses and have found that all red dots are clear.
