Folks are territorial about their food.

I count my blessings I am not a food snob. ;)

I travel often on cruise ships. To me, the food is absolutely world class and some of the most delicious food I could imagine. But throughout a cruise, and on the cruising blogs, folks continually complain how awful the food is.

Again, I'm lucky I can count my Blessings and can truly appreciate food, just about anywhere. I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth.

I eat out a lot because I travel quite a LOT doing whatever it is I do for a living. Theres plenty of good food in restaurants. You just have to know where to look. Hard to do it on $65 a dinner though with a couple or 3 beers thrown in.

PNW food continues to go downhill and yet be some of the most expensive in the country. I travel a lot so get to dine all over the country (and in other countries) and our food prices are just insane. Everything from fast food to fine dining (which is pretty hard to find in NW Washington State) is way overpriced. Hard to get a decent lunch for under $20. Locally a decent breakfast burrito is $11.00. I had a much bigger and better one in Texas and it was $6.50. Crazy.

I buy the same thing at McDonalds when I go there and I do frequently when Im travelling. 2 hamburgers, Large Fries and a large diet coke. Same meal prices range from 8.30 to 12.70 and its not always the expensive cities that are most expensive either.

That's something I see and question.

The foodies are critical of restaurant food, but they love the food from the ptomaine carts.

Yuck.🥴

Hey now, some of those roach coaches aren't too bad, the diarrhea generally tapers off within a day or two.

I used to go to In n Out for a hamburger whenever I went to LA or Vegas, was looking forward to the one in Kiezer, not bad but still not up to the standards. last time I went there it wasn't worth the wait.

I probably spend almost half the year in Arizona. In'N'Out Burger used to be my go-to, but in the last few years (since the "pandemic?") somehow, its quality has taken a drastic downturn. Was in Tucson a couple weeks ago at my local In'N'Out, got a crappy cheeseburger, soggy fries and the chocolate shake just seemed off. Dunno what's going on with that chain, it used to positively rule the fast food burger, fries and shake world.

Wife and I still spend huge bucks at El Gaucho. Never been disappointed by their steaks. Their diver sea scallops are freakin' off the hook, the Chilean Sea Bass superb, the Chataubriand for two or any steak on the menu, so good...They even do salmon great.

Locally, I have a new Mexican food truck (Jessica's) that has some pretty good stuff at (almost) reasonable prices...

Taking a guess it sounds like they have cut corners to try to get more out of the food for the price they pay. It may work I guess but, it may also end up running off so much business that they can't stay in the game. LONG ago there was a nice sit down place here that was owned by two brothers. GREAT food, service, price. Place was always hopping busy. Then all of a sudden some gal who I have to guess was banging one of the owners started working the floor. She was WORTHLESS. Few times of her and we just stopped going. Within several months the place ended up closing down it got so bad. 2 different people tried setting up in the building and they quickly failed. Both of them had great food but, the place had been run so far into the ground that the new owners could not hang in long enough to win back the customers. A good reputation is so easy to kill off and so hard to win back.

Most of the amazing cooks, have now turned 50+ and now are retiring.
You have a younger crowd that can't use a can opener. So the food comes in instant everything as US foods who supplied these places they can tell you how many places order instant and frozen everything.

My friends call it the "Milwaukie Performing arts Center". The marinated steak is your best bet over
the more exspensive steaks. So I have heard, not that I have ever been of course.
They used to have really good steaks. They eliminated all but the new york strip and the all you can eat salad bar got yanked out which is probably a good thing. At one time the had they best $9 steak meal in town. ONLY $9 steak meal that is..

I was in there about 9 months ago and lets just say they relaxed their proximity restrictions.

In the last 6 months the family run Chinese and the family run Mexican restaurants both closed their doors after being here in Creswell for over 20 years a piece. Just this week the BBQ joint in Cottage Grove abruptly closed. They announced on Tuesday that Saturday was their last day. We didn't eat at any of them much but when we did I thought the food was pretty good. Good to take visiting family to kind of places.

And yes, I have noticed that the 1/2 gallon ice creams are more like 1/3 gallon now. Even the taco stand at work has gone from 6" soft tacos down to 5".
I remember going to Snappy Tacos in LA Puente as a teenager. 4 tacos or 4 burritos for $1. They were pretty good. More than the outrageous prices of restaurants is the food quality. Burgers, no matter where, is mostly fillers.

I'm going to make a pot roast soon. Used to be a cheap meal. I'm guessing it will be $30 for the ingredients of beef and vegetables. Though one serving at a sit down would be close to $25.

Beef chuck shoulder is up around $6.50lb at Winco. i don't buy it except when it drop to $4.00 and change. Over $7.00 for short ribs. Braised beef short ribs! Mmmmmm.....haven't bought them in years. Braised beef-shanks are a decent second, with bonus marrow!
