If a bolt fails, how likely is its just the bolt and not the carrier as well? Just wondering if it'd be worth putting one in the spare parts bin
I've seen a few bolts fail. Seen extractors fail on their own also. Never have seen a carrier damaged (save the gas key sheared off) to the point of non-operational.
Having an extra bolt assembly in the grip cavity is Uber convenient.

Bolts can shear where the cam pin is drilled through, the thin walls are a weak point.

The only part of a carrier that's likely to fail is the gas key, and it's pretty uncommon.
