If I was looking for a 500 magnum I would go with the Freedom Arms. Having owned several and still have my 454, hands down the finest built revolver in big bore magnums.

Relooking at the Freedom Arms site, I may have been wrong about that option. They list a cartridge called .500 Wyoming Express, but not the Smith one. So, maybe scratch that of the list. (Presumably the .500 WE is a wildcat, but I don't know a lot about it.)

I'd be tempted to go with a bolt action 12g though over this. More available ammos.

A bolt action 12 ga is pretty much a dog in my experience.
A friend had a 36" Long Tom" and when we were duck hunting, he could''t keep up with the pumps and autos.
It would have been OK for a turkey gun.

I have a very early 8 3/8 full underlug version and think that this may transmit even more "kick" to you. Those ports help mitigate muzzle rise but nothing towards recoil, just like mine . I love it though, after three cylinders full single handed is when I start to flinch a little and move to something else. Takes most others only one or two shots to do the same.

WHY????? I had a 7 1/2 inch super Blackhawk .44 mag that I loaded some full tilt boogy 300 grain hornady xtp handloads. what a horrible experience, couldn't wait till those suckers were gone. every damned shot hurt and I am not a recoil puss by any stretch of the imagination. that sucker barked and kicked like a mule, was not fun at all.
