Commercial Mauser, set triggers, 6mm barrel, headspace to long for 243.
Sent the chamber cast with the rifle. But if I remember correctly 284 case
has very little taper.

I recently acquired a 25-284 in a Sako L57 rifle.

Obviously not original, neither the barrel or the stock.

Looking for thoughts on the caliber for those who've used it.

Have got all the dies to make it and convert 284 brass, along with some loaded rounds and extra brass.

Most likely will rebarrel to 6mm Remington, as I got it mostly for this reason...to convert to 6mm.

Checkering maybe, but I would leave the rest as is. Excellent action and cartridge. A way ahead-of-its-time stubby cartridge with a rebated rim. Current short-stubby powders may wake this caliber right up. It is at least the equal of the .25-06 and has theoretical accuracy advantages. Since you shoot 25 anyway, why not give it a chance? Older Hodgdon's manuals have data for it. As well, there is some info in Cartridges of the World.

@P7M13 shoulder angle was not correct to be AI. about 40 degree.
And it was not the 17.5 to 20 degree angle of common calibers.
I sent the chamber cast with the rifle, about 30 degree shoulder with
little taper of the body.
I am going by old man memory so it could be 6mm rem AI.
Whatever it is, I'm sure that @Velzey will find it.

Yeah, my 6 Rem AI has the 40° shoulders.
