1911 Question/Guide Rod

I have a Desert Eagle 1911 G which has the 5" barrel. It comes with the long guide rod that protrudes out of the end of the slide when action is locked back. My question is, can I put a standard length guide rod in it with standard rod plug and spring,, and maintain function/reliability? I swapped it out with another 1911 and it appears to function perfect when hand cycling the firearm.

Yes, it wont affect function or reliability at all and will improve field stripping.

It should work fine.
But there are a few guns out there with reverse plugs. And that might or might not work.

Yes. GI recoil spring plug, GI length guide rod, standard recoil spring, good to go.

I ordered all three pieces. Def need plug to go with the rod. Got a spring too for good measure
