I might as well call B. S. Now. Note, I said school shootings which have been declining. You are doing a bait and switch here. Look at the data from the 90s. There were many more. Overall violent crime as well. The genre of the murder has changed. Columbine changed the focus.Your recollection isn't really supported by the facts. Count the number in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and so far since 2010 List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia
Since some people use a very broad definition of a "school shooting" as in any shooting that takes place on school grounds, including in the middle of the night, on a weekend, in the summer, when no students are present, let's stick with school mass shootings - as I referred to earlier - ("a multiple homicide incident in which four or more victims are murdered with firearms, within one event, and in one or more locations in close proximity") that occurred while students were present.
In the 1980s there was one, the January 17, 1989 Stockton, California school mass shooting that killed 6, wounded 32, and led to the first California "assault weapon" ban.
In the 1990s there were four, including the Columbine shooting in Colorado.
In the 2000s there were five, including the largest one so far, at Virginia Tech.
So far in the 2010s, not even a full decade, there have been seven, including Umpqua CC in Oregon, Sandy Hook, Parkland, and Santa Fe, TX.
1-4-5-7 (in not even a full decade). I think I see a trend there, and it isn't decreasing.
Yes. Someone should have intervened. Parents shouldnt give guns to kids until kids have proved they know and will honor safe gun handling practices. And pointing even unloaded pellet guns at a human is very bad training, let alone actually pointing and firing loaded pellet guns at humans. You are bragging about it, but you lucked out. You could have blinded or even killed another kid with a short range pellet shot to an eye. When I was in jr high (no "middle schools" then) we had neighborhood "wars" using bb and pellet guns. No one interfered- maybe someone should have. No one got an eye poked out and short of a couple of chipped windows, no damages occurred.. Nowadays someone would have called the cops and a SWAT team would have been deployed...
BB guns, and Airsoft guns are not real guns. They can be useful teaching tools but they aren't real guns. Pellet guns cross the line with lead pellets but that's not what people used for bb gun fights, and the plastic airsoft bbs are pretty harmless even with the most powerful airsoft guns. I've been shot point blank with only a thin t shirt and all I got was a welt. I've also never heard of anyone playing without at least safety glasses.Yes. Someone should have intervened. Old Broad probably would have been the one who called the cops. Frankly no one cared unless a window was accidentally chipped. We had a good time and it was training for the next big event in our lives, the RVN... And FYI, Old Broad, I wasnt "bragging" about "it", I was simply stating a fact.BB guns, and Airsoft guns are not real guns. They can be useful teaching tools but they aren't real guns. Brainwashing including but not limited to:Home school it's the only way.
The public schools are .
Full of teachers.
That there only goal is to brainwash your kids.
Sorry @AndyinEverson there is always the one exception to the rule.Hey now...
There are some teachers that still teach :
The meaning of keeping your word...
Respect and understanding...
The idea that real life ain't Burger King and you can't have it your way...( at least all the time )
Follow through and commitment...
Real problems need real solutions...
Just sayin'... We all ain't like the stereotype.
Andy
Agreed and smaller districts are still much more conservative then their big city counterparts.Hey now...

No worries EPS...Sorry @AndyinEverson there is always the one exception to the rule.
Lol
BS. I wouldn't have called the cops. Not my style. I'd have gone and had a quiet chat with the kids parents.Old Broad probably would have been the one who called the cops. It does indeed and thanks...Well I know you are not the only teacher on here.
But it sucks that the good ones get put in the same category as the bad ones.
If that makes sense.
Big problem. The data had not been kept or centralized until the 2000s. Meaning your Wikipedia article is inherently flawed.First of all, no bait and switch. I was always talking about school mass shootings.
Second, if you want to talk about all school shootings, OK let's talk about all school shootings. There have been more in the past 20 years than there were in the previous 20 years during the 1980s and 1990s, contrary to your claim.
All school shootings:
List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia
1980s: 41
1990s: 65
2000s: 64
2010-2019: 194
All school shootings during the 20 years 1980 to 1999 when you said there were "lots more" school shootings: 106
All school shootings during the past 20 years (2000-2019): 258
Not only have there been more school shootings in the past 20 years than during the 1980s and 1990s as you claimed, there have been THREE TIMES as many school shootings in the past decade as there were in the 1990s (194 vs 65).
So whether you want to talk about school mass shootings, or all school shootings, there have been lots more during the past 10 years than during the 1990s, or even during the 1980s and 1990s combined. If you don't believe me, count them yourself
