FFL transfer for a sale of an FCU, very easy transaction and great price. I will use him again.
Nothing but positive interactions, though they showed no interest in competing on $... and that's ok

Pros
  • Friendly, patient, helpful staff
Cons
  • Not exactly price-competitive
In this time of limited supply and high demand, I honestly don't begrudge dealers from pricing for maximum profit - I didn't feel gouged, but the prices I paid were definitely above the MAP found online. But they were able to get the items I wanted, the processes were efficient, and their service was very good, and so I would still wholeheartedly recommend West Coast Armory.

Pros
  • They know their stuff when it comes to guns and making money selling guns.
  • They have a decent selection of targets, rifles, shotguns, and all the accoutrements for target shooting and hunters alike.
  • The turnaround time for the background check was only 2 weeks at the height of the pandemic, I expected a wait of 2-3 months...
  • They were up front about their prices being high due to demand given the current social and political climate.
Cons
  • They listen to you when you say you're unfamiliar with a particular model and will sell it to you incomplete anyways.
  • Their prices are astronomical.
  • They are definitely in it for the money FAR moreso than for any customer they don't already know and like well.
  • They are willing to lose sales and potential habitual customers.
  • They honestly don't care if you buy from them or not or if you decide to go elsewhere.
I went to The Gun Room 3 times last February (2021), the last of which was on the 20th. The first time I went, I bought a Sarsilmaz 1911 model chambered in .45Cal with a sicker price of $750, a S&W M&P 9mm "Bug Out edition" with an over-shoulder/cross-body ammo bag, a couple extra clips and a "first aid kit" with a sticker price of $599, a box of ammo for each, a Hornady biometric portable safe (at "$259..and if I didn't like the price, I could go elsewhere, [they] didn't really care"), a NC Star green laser sight + flashlight AIO for the Sarsilmaz (for $130) and background checks for each piece off the top, then, since I was spending so much money there that day, they went ahead and allowed me to buy a second box of ammo for each caliber and said they were going to "throw in" the cleaning kits for each "no charge", and ended up charging me $25 for each, which, ultimately, is fine, I planned on BUYING them I the first place, but I didn't appreciate being told they were "throwing them in" for free when they weren't... I preferred being told I could go elsewhere if I didn't like the price...which was still a bit rude and quite a bit shocking, but at least it was up front and honest.
The day I returned to pick everything I'd already purchased up, I happened to see an unusual looking sidearm and asked what it was, said I'd never seen anything like it, and they pulled it out and looked at it, explained that it was a Remington R51 with a built in Crimson Trace red laser pointer chambered in 9mm. I said I'd never heard of either of those things, tell me more...and why does it have that pretty blue spring there on the side? Is it missing something or is it designed that way?
THECNICALLY I don't think he necessarily lied to me, because I asked both questions at the same time... his response was that he didn't know, he'd never seen one like that, in fact, they didn't normally carry Remington at all, (then he place it on the counter and I picked it up....it was really comfortable, shockingly so)...and he continued to say that the only reason they had THIS one was because a long-time customer came in looking to trade it in, said he'd bought it a couple years back and hadn't even fired it once. While looking a little perplexed he quietly muttered something about a bushing that I didn't quite catch because I was in the process of letting my mouth get ahead of my brain and saying ok, I'll take it. I really like how this feels. It feel GOOD in my hands, I like the weight of it and the grip is just right, and it's much easier to cock than the M&P!"... and he said ok, but I'm still going to have to run your background check again. we have to do it for every single gun we sell no matter HOW many you buy or who you are, even if we've known you forever... and I said ok...I figured that from last time... and then I said, in the mean time, while we're here and it's a new day...I need to pick up some more ammo, if you have any you don't mind selling me? and then I bought a larger round of ammo, opting for much larger boxes... and went to go look at the targets they had... I didn't find what I WANTED, but I found some I thought were ok.... and he said to go ahead and pick some out ...on the house... so I did.. 12 of them I think... and then the day I came to pick up the R51,I bought ANOTHER round of ammo, the biggest boxes they had and went BACK to the targets and picked out some I hadn't already picked up the last trip and was charged $5 not a ton of money, I know, it's just that I wouldn't treat my paying customers that way, especially when they'd spent as much as I had... even though on the R51, the tag price was $600 and he eyeballed me and told me I was lucky he'd forgotten to gt around to changing that because he'd MEANT to put a $900 tag on it...
I do like roller coasters, just not that kind... going from being charged twice market value 3 times on sidearms and then some more for the boxes of ammo, the dis-ease of feeling sheistered twice on the price of one gun, lol, it was just way, WAY too much money for what I bought, the only reason I went ahead with it is because Big 5 had ZIPPO for EITHER sidearms OR ammo AT ALL.... and I really didn't know where else to go... or if anybody else was going to have ANY better prices or salesmanship at the time because of the whole ANTIFA/BLM BS going on downtown and abroad...but that's EXACTLY why I felt I needed to NOT WAIT on these purchases...Fear truly is a POWERFUL motivator...
That's the whole of why I gave them 2 stars... I suppose they could have been worse as a business and I suppose I could have been better as a customer and informed myself about a piece I was considering, but unfamiliar with... it turns out, the only reason that pretty blue spring was showing is because it was missing the breech chamber bushing... the little door that keeps the round in place til after it's been fired where the casing is ejected upon the recoil... THAT piece WAS MISSING... bummer... and no, I didn't try to fire it without it... kept getting a feeling that something just wasn't right about it and so I looked and looked online until I eventually got it figured out.... and no, I didn't try to take it back either... all sales final, you know....

Most awkward experience I have ever had in a gun shop. I have been in countless stores and was never treated so poorly.
Hundreds of better shops out there, avoid this place due to high pricing and very poor customer service.

I came in looking to make sure that I was correctly following the procedure that they have laid out online to transfer a firearm through them via online sale. (They make it very clear on their website that the steps must be followed prior or they will charge double for transfer and background check.)

No problem, I was in the area anyways. So I figured I could make an appearance before I filled out the online form…
Well when I brought up making an online order, the cashier immediately and already irritated asked from who.
I told him Palmetto State Armory, he interrupted with "No, not them."

I tried to clarify weather they transfer or not, and he said they do. I asked why not PSA, he replied that they are garbage. (maybe he doesn't realize PSA is actually a vendor for other firearm manufacturers as well)
So I try to be patient, and tell him that the gun I'm getting is not a palmetto brand.

"Well what kind is it?" He interrupts again. To which I reply that it's a Black Aces Tactical. He then basically calls me a liar and says Black Aces only does direct sales.

At this point he is clearly irritated with me, and I have only been in the store for about 3 minutes.

Then he starts to lose his cool…
Goes on to tell me that I need to shop local. And if all the gun shops just stopped doing transfers for online sales then I would have to buy from them. He adds that he has to eat too, so I should just overpay. (Judging by his brand new truck and some extra body weight, I believe he is already "eating")

I took a second to look at his merchandise… He's standing over a display case of 40% marked up Chinese holosuns (don't get me wrong, I like Holosun, I have several). As well as stacks of shirts with Thor's Armory logos, most likely not sourced locally.
The only thing a could find that seemed like it came from Oregon was a couple Leupolds scopes (great optics by the way, just too overpriced here).

Of course they had blue and pink Plebian Ar15's on the wall. Marked up so high I couldn't even see the price. Just waiting for some uneducated new hobbyist to overpay. Next to the nearly $200 stripped Aero Precision lowers.

I know that they can't meet the deals that I find online, I don't expect them too. I can get stuff probably as good or better deals than they get. I regularly purchase through vendors that bypass MAP pricing by allowing coupon codes, email for prices and so on. I definitely am wise enough to recognize the absolute price gouging going on here and would advise others to SHOP ONLINE FIRST!

I expect to be treated politely, regardless of my considerations of which guns to buy. I'm sure though, if I came in with a pocket full of cash ready to build a gun with all the parts from them, maybe they would treat me differently.

…And don't bother replying to this like the other bad reviews. I don't care if you are the owner, your job is to get my money and you failed. Do you not profit from a transfer? You charge $50 + $10, seems like some of that would go strait into your pocket no? Well not from me.

The damage is done, I spend a lot of money quite often on firearms and accessories. Not a penny will go to Thor's Armory. Nothing you say will save face, you were rude. Period. Get some people skills and maybe find another job if you aren't making enough money. Or just keep getting mad when people shop online and laugh at your price, makes no difference to me.

J&B is by far the best gun store I have ever been to. Their customer service is unmatched and every employee is extremely helpful. I could not recommend these folks more. Many gun stores seem to gatekeep and make you feel bad if you don't know something about something. This is not the case at J&B. They are very friendly and supportive and give tons of great tips and advice.

They will definitely be my FFL of choice going forward.
