They're still under construction and still waiting on some final permits. They told me they're hoping to have the range open in summer but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Its been a year and a half....
If someone took my money for a service I never got for 1.5yrs and still cant get Id be pissed.
Somethings wrong with the place to not be operational by now.

While I'm sure the city isn't making things easy, they definitely didn't follow the 7 P's on this one.

Any Oregon gun owner should know the state doesn't want more gun ranges, they should have known the process before taking peoples money. They need to do the right thing and full refund everyones range memberships and not take memberships until they get thru the gauntlet to open their range.
The owner has ghosted this forum and his own thread, will he do the right thing?

I don't disagree. What I mean by them not following the 7 Ps(Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance) is that any reasonable person would have ensured that all permitting and buildout planning was in place before construction ever began.

I have no idea how they have kept the lights on this long, as the gun store is mediocre, at absolute best and they always seem to have 2-3 staff on-site. Seems to me like a giant money pit.

I hope they can make it work and it turns out to be as good or better than Safefire, but I think that is a pipe dream at this point.

I just stopped by the shop on Friday to check in. I'd decided to cancel my membership that I'd done early sign up for because my schedule is just too busy to really use it a this point and I was honestly tired of them holding my money. I know plenty of people here have been all doom and gloom about the place, but I hadn't been overly concerned. Place still seems to be evolving as things change every time I go in (maybe once every 6 months).

I recognized 2 of the staff so that was nice. They're still under construction and still waiting on some final permits. They told me they're hoping to have the range open in summer but I wouldn't get my hopes up. All in all, I still don't know what their deal is, but they seem to just be floating along while they wait for the range to be open.
"... still waiting on some final permits." This is what I suspected was the issue all along.

The thing that is irksome to me that others have echoed is why would the owners go completely dark on this. Their website is completely broken, their Facebook page hasn't been updated in years, and they've abandoned this site which at first they used as a platform to attract new customers. It's like they're now in hiding mode. 🤷‍♂️

I'm very late to the party for this thread. The "Vendor Hidden" and "Supporting Vendor Status Expired" on the left where poster ID is supposed to be caught my eye. That right there says something.

I'd think that the big pitch for memberships as outlined in the very first post is akin to time share sales or gym memberships. Which are often entered into on the basis of spur of the moment rather than rational thought. There is data that indicates that only about 33% of customers who buy gym memberships use them to the extent that they get value out of the purchase. Meaning 67% do not get their value. It's the salesmanship of the offering that got them in.

In this case, the pitch includes statements that there is a limited number of memberships being offered. This is the "exclusivity pitch." Which if true would be placing an artificial limit on the business itself and would likely not last long even if stated at the outset. To keep a real membership operation going, the only limit would be the number that could be sold. Like gyms. Especially knowing that many members will lose their initial burst of enthusiasm, which in turn will leave recreational space for new sign-ups.

There is the statement that "walk in space will be extremely limited" which is designed to steer customers to the membership sign-up.

A year and a half out and no range. Well, it's possible that their pitch didn't meet expectations to the extent that it would allow completion of the project and now they are stuck. There I go, being generous again. BUT: No way would I personally buy a membership in anything that wasn't already an on-going concern. Too many reasons such things could fail before completion. And maybe this is how a lot of other prospects saw it.

Their Facebook page is moribund. Their Instagram page is pretty dead, but does show a picture of range bullet trap equipment stored uninstalled in a corner of the building. Which shows intent of range building.

That's a big building to pay rent on.

After reading about them online, one phrase that sticks in my mind is, "sinking ship vibe."

Ironically, i just talked to my contact today for the first time since last posting. I was told Tri-county had been there in the past couple weeks talking to them about buying their bullet traps. I don't know if it was unsolicited, or if Wooster reached out to them.
Like Mark said above, any pushback would have happened well before they got their permits. My guess, is they never had permits for a range to begin with.

Wooster blows so much smoke up everyone's rear its unbelievable. I certainly don't believe a word they say. I feel bad for their employees who are drinking the cool-aid.

Well there you go. It makes you wonder how long they can keep the gun store part of this outfit going, much less the range which will probably never happen.

Havent some people had good service from the store though?
Maybe they just decided to abandon the indoor range part? Have we heard from anyone who paid for range membership that hasnt got their money back?

That is a huge commercial space for a gun shop without a range. Also someone mentioned earlier in the thread that their gunsmith parted ways with them.

Yes. The service has been great(As it should be when there's never more than 2 customers at the same time), but the selection and pricing leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know how they can survive like that, even if those specific items were selected for maximum profit margin.

I paid for the membership pretty early on. I just went in on Friday and got refunded as even if they opened the range next month I wouldn't have time to use the membership like I would have over a year ago. Schedule has just gotten too busy.

I actually had both terrible and great service from them in regards to their gunsmith. Story is all here a few pages back, but long story short was the old gunsmith screwed up, kept a rifle for months, then left. The person who took over got the work finish, did extra work, and comped the entire cost.

Thanks for the quick recap, glad it overall worked out for you on both expenses. Cant help but notice though, that you had to ask for a refund a year and half later.
They need to automatically refund everyone.

I guess that's the hard part. They're still moving forward with the range so all the deposits/pre-sales are still valid. They didn't stipulate they'd refund anyone if the range didn't open by a particular date. They didn't fight me at all on getting a refund so that was good. It's more of an annoyance for people than anything.

That's not to say I think it's okay that they sold memberships way too early. I think it would have been a nice gesture and smart business to have called everyone who prepaid and offer a refund when the range didn't open within 6 months.

Thats interesting they are still trying to open the ramge. While its a fair point they are still working on it, they took money under the promise it would be open... well over a year ago.
Yet nothing but crickets and silence.
If they wanted to do the right thing they would come back here and keep the community informed of the progress and delays. Pretty simple etiquette but all we have is ghosting.

I agree. I think they've definitely dropped the ball here. However, maybe we're all small fish here for them and their big audience is somewhere else. I still think it's crappy business practice what they did, but I'm sure they have their own reasons for handling things the way they have.
