Token show for the lib base. Hopeless and they know all to we'll that state level is where they are winning and where their focus is.

Been tried before and failed.

Question is whether they have the political capital to make it happen this time.

IMO - probably not. Too close to an election year for them to risk it. As mentioned above, they also know that it is state legislatures where they are winning, but some states are just not going to allow it.

But it certainly bears watching closely.

Nobody ever thought they would put through the forced healthcare tax either and now even with repubs in charge it never goes away.

It's called the "Charleston Exception" and Charles C. Cooke from NRO sums it up nicely.

"Clinton will push Congress to close the "Charleston Loophole" that allows a gun sale to proceed without a completed background check if that check is not complete within three days . . . This same loophole allowed over 2,500 prohibited gun purchases in 2014. Clinton will support congressional efforts to close the "Charleston Loophole" and provide sufficient time and resources to complete a background check before a sale is approved. Translation: Clinton's commitment to the presumption of innocence is skin-deep and liable to be jettisoned at a moment's notice. Clinton's portfolio seems to have been deliberately written to infuriate and to disjoin. Under existing federal law, the FBI has three days in which to collect disqualifying evidence against a would-be gun purchaser, after which period it is required to let the sale proceed without further delay. This arrangement is not the product of a "mistake" or of a "loophole" — or, for that matter, of "extremism" on behalf of the "gun lobby" — but of a deliberate legislative attempt to ensure that law-abiding citizens are not denied their rights ad infinitum by bureaucratic failure or by executive misbehavior. Philosophically, the provision derives from an ancient principle: ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat, or, "the burden of proof is on the one who declares, not on one who denies."

SOOOOO, it isn't a "loophole" because it was written into the law so that the FBI and NCIC system would place you in the equivalent of "all operators are serving other customers" until the completion of the next ice age before deciding if you had the appropriate "by your leave sire..." to exercise a right that isn't given by government in the first damn place.

Maybe instead of concentrating on this, maybe a comprehensive package of reforms on mental health and making it slightly easier to get people like the UCC D-bag some involuntary help so they aren't in the community to hurt people in the first place.o_O

You can't escape this movement. The more states that fall, the wider it will spread. The best chance we have is to defend in place, and don't give up, even when they get a victory. It is possible for things to be reversed, under the right conditions. When the Clinton AWB expired in 2004, conditions were right to keep it from being renewed. It is possible to win, we can't let defeat make us run and hide our heads in some fictional "untouchable" state. You may only run away for a time before it catches you.

Every state, including OR and WA needs as many patriots to remain and be active and vote.

Always struck me as odd that people who trust the government to tell us what "commonsense gun reform" is also gave us the Patriot Act, the police state, total destruction of a ton of civil liberties, jailed journalists, PRISM, and the list goes on and on.

Keep your donations to OFF, NRA, and GOA high. I've taken a break from shooting to invest more $$$ into gun right organizations.

My conservative vote, in my conservative county (Yamhill) may only be a pin-prick to them as things are now on this uneven playing field...

But I'm sticking around; just in case we go into overtime...
