I am trying to determine a fair price for buying or selling a Winchester model 70, chambered in 30-06, made in 1941 with a 24in barrel. There is no scope mount. It is not a Featherweight or Super Grade.

The only one I can find that has sold recently went for $750.

I am happy to provide more information if it helps.

Thank you, time is appreciated!

I would think...
That if the bore is excellent....a selling price would be in the $800 dollar range.

Pre-64 model 70's are wonderful rifles....however...
Lately they haven't commanded the high prices they have had in the past....
At least where I live.

Ya i am with Andy. Price has definitely come down on the pre 64s(seems like on all older guns), the guys that really appreciate them are getting old and giving up hunting and collecting or dieing off. The kids now days want the plastic guns in new "better" calibers than the 30-06. I think $800 is a good starting place with $700 being more realistic. Nice rifle!

I don't completely disagree with Andy and Tlock, but if this gun is original and untouched, as it looks from these pics, if it was mine you wouldn't be buying it for $800.
The 30-06 is the least desirable, because it was the most common, but this isn't a post war gun, and that increases it's value. The stock looks untouched and it still has the steel butt plate, along with the front sight hood. The bluing looks very good. too. I wish mine was this nice.
$1000-1200.

Something to consider with firearm values...

They can vary wildly by area / region.
What sells for an expensive price at one place and time....
May not fetch that same price elsewhere.

Now...
I have no doubt that this Winchester is worth more than my $800 guess...
I also posted that as a selling price....not a true dollar "worth"...again...for where I live.

I haven't found Gunbroker to be particularly apt to the PNW in terms pricing. Gunbroker values seem inflated to me. Just as I think True Gun Values are typically lower than what sells out here. Very generally speaking, gun values seem lower in the South, all over the board in the MidWest, higher in the PNW (than the South) and absurdly high in California and Colorado.

It's a beautiful rifle but not a collector, at least that I can tell. If you want to sell consider Gunbroker at a higher value and see what happens. Find a slightly lower price and try to sell it here, or keep it and pass it down as it's gorgeous and you are not going to find another one. 30.06 is a fine hunting round, and ammo is plentiful and affordable.

Thank you to all for your input. The riflings look very clean and performed 1.5 moa at 200 yds, this weekend. I could not agree more that it is an amazing rifle. It is not my only 30-06 and there are several Featherweights in the safe. If I didn't have others, one would need to remove it from my cold dead hands.

IMO if you got an offer of $800 you'd be doing good. As has been mentioned many folks want a Gizmachee 10 watt blaster. The gun market is soft everywhere. PAX
