Hello Everyone,
I trying to figure out what to buy.
I wanted to add a late model scope to my model 70. All I have now is the old style scope mounts.
It seems the pre 64 needs specific mounts., and the older mounts do not really work with the newer scope rings.
Do they make a picitinny mount thats more of a modern system that can fit?
I would rather not end up buying a lot of mounts I cannot use.
Thanks in advance.

Contact Warne Scope Mounts in Tualatin. They helped me with a vintage Remington model 722 scope setup.
Very easy to work with and you can walk right in and buy from them over the counter.

Leupold makes a piccitiny mount- not sure if this is what you're looking for.

If memory serves correctly you will need a long action win pic mount though to mount on your pre 64 short action.

I can't remember if it's labeled pre 64 and don't think it is. Just labeled a win mod 70 long action pic mount if I remember correctly.

Most sporting good stores will have them.

Two separate pre 64 rifles that I did it to.

All pre-64 model 70 actions are the same length. The large magnum chambered actions had the top opening lengthened rearward. This shortened the mounting surface, so the screw holes were closer together, at 0.435 spacing. The standard chambered rifles had rear hole spacing of 0.863.

You didn't mention the cartridge for your rifle, but a look at the rear base screw spacing will tell you if you need bases for the standard or for the magnum pre-64 action.

It looks like the standard hole spacing in the photo, and a standard cartridge , so any pre-64 non-magnum base or bases should fit.
