There is a discrepancy with many Winchester serial numbers thru this time frame, as noted above by @Tlock and @64MercurysRule .
It's a long time argument as to which is correct.
So, 25 or 26. Hard to tell.

Proofhouse also shows serial numbers for other brands.

Remove the hand guard and check the date on the flat bottom of the barrel near the receiver.
That should get you close.

I had a nagging feeling about this when I posted, but was remembering Remington did something like this. I forgot Winchester did...
