Do you think every citizen should be afforded a gun by the government, and training?

This Is Where Your Tax Dollars Actually Go

Here's a nice little up to dated break down, plenty more you can find with a little research that shows just how much of our taxes are going to various aspects of our government including defense, debt, medical care, etc.

Why not add on making sure every legal American citizen is given a working firearm and firearm training, ideally done at a young age.

A gun in the hand of every citizen!

I personally don't want a government provided gun. Talk about national registration.

It's more of a starter program to initiate an early education, and value of the 2A. It would surely produce a lot less uneducated individuals voting without really knowing anything about guns. Who needs a register if everyone gets one?

Understanding where the government gets "their" money. Anything that causes the government to give anything to the populace first requires them to take it from somebody else.

Considering the blunder that the government makes out of most any endeavor they are involved in suggests that nomatter how positively intended the program would be, it would be a disaster.

Advocating for more government at any level stinks of a thought process that is eerily familiar with those that would remove the rights of Americans to bear arms if they could.

I think anyone who wants a gun should have one. I don't think the government should be involved at any level.
Well, they already are, and always will be. They make the regulations gun manufactures must abide buy, they make the regulations gun sellers must abide by, they make the laws regulating what the citizen, or non citizen must abide by. As well as regulate military training, and firearms training. Considering they are already involved, what's to be against educating the populace about guns in a positive educational way with the tools to do so?

No...
Not everyone wants a gun or wants the responsibility of firearm ownership.

Yea, people don't want to do a lot of things, but that generally makes for a person that isn't very well rounded, and requires others to do things for them. A good education on firearms in an educational setting is a boon to future generations that will value that education, lower gun deaths, and increase a populace of responsible gun owners. Not wanting to do something, or having the responsibility to do something usually doesn't stop people from having to do them to be a active part of society.

Forcing or mandating someone to do something is not a good way to insure anything that you posted...

Well, I doubt any of us will all be able to work forever, or rely upon some independent wealth social services that help with that seem to be a positive in our society. As well as helping those that may not be able to always afford health insurance such as single moms, the disabled, etc. Those seem to be positive intrusions of the government. The government takes pretty decent care of our national parks, and other nature treasures...seems there's some good things the government does with what you may consider intrusion.

By forcing me to pay for it and forcing someone who may not want it to have it?
Yeah. That'll win all the hearts and minds.
You're already paying for some pretty ridiculous stuff with your money. Your taxes pay for bombs dropped on bubblegum I know you don't care about, a single bomb could fund thousands of firearms and education courses for citizens.

Everything you listed would be better handle by the private sector.

Just because you give a class and "encourage" someone to learn or appreciate something ...still is no sure way of having them do that....
Andy

Of course not, it's a process that would have to be politically marketed in a way that shows the long term benefits. Obviously nothing happens over night, but a constant program ran for a decade in which all we're really losing is a few high price military items from taxes can change an attitude of a nation on guns.
