Why is it that when a republican politician (in this case, the SC governor) has an extramarital affair, everyone from republicans to democrats are calling for his head, saying that he betrayed the public trust, yet when a democrat gets "attention" in the oval office, the same people (primarily the democrats) are the first to defend his "private life."
The governor of South Carolina admitted to an affair. Seems like thats personal business, even though he seems-bent on telling the public about it. But republicans and democrats alike are calling for his resignation (which he won't give, being a lame-duck governor anyway, aka last term), crying that he has betrayed trust and is no longer fit to lead. He certainly did betray someone's trust, but we're not them. He betrayed his family. If he did not use public funds to carry on this affair (which is being investigated, and has been questioned, but no allegations so far, at least none that I've seen in the news), how is it anyone's business but his, his families, and his God's?
Bill Clinton had a few affairs, most notably the Monica Lewinsky issue. Republican's called for his head. While some of the far right did so on the moral outrage issue, others did so only because he perjured himself in a federal investigation. Where were the democrats calling for his resignation? He lied to us, but I don't remember anyone on the left claiming that he had betrayed our trust (even though he had the affair in his office, and then lied to us about it) and should resign.
An open note to all politicians. BE DISCREET. We all know that for the most part you are not the best and brightest of our society. We all know that many of you are morally depraved idiots. But we obviously don't care (we keep electing you) and we certainly don't care about your love life. SO STOP TELLING US!
Okay, I've raved from my soap box enough for the day and feel all the better for having done it.
