I've never had to do any shaving of lugs for my holosun optics
Depends on the guns footprint. For example if you throw a K Footprint optic like a 507K or EPS carry on a 43Xmos you will either have to file down the lugs or get an adapter plate.

Personally when it comes to RDS on pistols I only do direct mill. I avoid plates whenever I can.

I also throw the iron sights in the trash. lol.

Here is good article explaining what @Jason200911 is referring to.

Holosun 507k for carry. Leupold DPP for target. Trijicon SRO for woods. Trijicon is worth the price and my favorite. I found, with practice, that red dots really helped me get on target, especially at distance beyond 15 yards.
I second this. I have the 507k and SRO and love them, and trijicon just makes great proven optics. Cant go wrong with these options.

Hello folks, looking for opinions. I only have one red dot (Tasso Pro-Point), and I am finally convinced they are, on average, an add better choice than just irons. I'm curious about your advice with reference to which red dot to get. I shoot bullseye and I mix my carry gun into the rotation for bullseye shooting as well.

With that said, I'm looking for a smaller dot, open to red or green, and open to different reticle, but I generally like a non crowded sight. The dot will be going on a 4.2" barreled Ruger SP101 match champion in .357mag. The dot may get moved over to a 5" Springfield Garrison in 45acp as well. Ideally I would like something between $100-$200, and footprint doesn't matter because I have to buy a mount to match as neither gun currently has a red dot mount. The 357 is my main overnight hiking gun. I have had multiple critter encounters at nigh, and the red dot would help in those scenarios. I will say that while I like a small dot, I do realize that there are pros with a dot in a circle/big dots, especially since I sometimes "loose" my little dot when bringing my gun up, and that wastes time. Some sort of shake awake feature would be nice. Amy thoughts on the Cyelee red dots?

Cheers
That's a beauty! The LSS stock gives it a real classy look, and sounds like you've got it set up just right. That 3-9x32 should treat you well — perfect match for a rimfire like that.

Curious to hear how she shoots once you've had some time behind it. Always cool seeing folks breathe new life into their .22s!

Now that warmer weather is somewhat here, I can IWB carry in summer shorts. I put a Primary Arms micro green dot on my P365, and so far, really like it. Didn't break the bank and to me, is better than the Sig Romeo Zero as it doesn't have a polymer housing.

ETA: Not sure how it would hold up to the .357 mag.

Red dot update:
After about 400 rounds in the 4.2" SP101, I figured out I just sucked at shooting. The irons will do just fine 🙂 Haha.

Here's where my research led me…
Just got a Holosun HS507K X2 from Amazon. $295.99. It's at the gunsmith getting mounted on a G26. It's my first optic.
Follow up after hundreds of rounds & thousands of dry fires.
Just before I got the RDS I bought the Mantis Laser Academy. I try to dry fire at least 100 shots per day. As a side note, I'm developing a callous on my shooting hand's middle finger knuckle.
Every dry fire session I spend the first few minutes practicing "finding the dot". From low ready, I slowly bring the gun up, put the dot on the target then slowly bring the gun back to low ready, trying to force myself to learn where the low ready needs to be in order to put the dot where I want it when I raise the gun.
At the range I'm pretty accurate doing slow fire. Now I'm working on bringing the dot back to the target after a shot (managing recoil).
I love the dot. For one thing I can shoot with both eyes open, something I just can't master with iron sights. It's also much easier to put the dot on target than doing the front sight thing.

Glad it's working out!! I just got my 26 slide back too. But it's more of a rang gun currently. I haven't carried it much. For carry I prefer irons normally. Nice groups.

Holosun eps 6 moa green. The full size is not much bigger than the carry model. If worried about printing, get a holster with adjustable cant and ride height, mod wing claw, as well as a foam wedge. I have a eps installed on my p10s and it doesn't print.

Did anyone mention the Aimpoint COA?

My eyes decided for me, that a dot optic was gonna be my future.
I don't really like the extra bulk but the world is a safer place with me carrying one. :s0114:

Anyway my 43x gave way to a new 43x COA.

It's goooood!

I really prefer the closed emitter [Keeps the crud out]. And even though it's small, I find the dot no problem.
And having a dot on a distant target you see clearly, is better than trying to get my older eyes to focus on that now fuzzy front sight.

Now please don't think I can't see well at all. And plan on defending myself using some type of braille defense system. :s0108:
I see fine at distance. It's just the first couple feet in front of my face that are not as sharp as they were when I was younger.

Maybe a unpopular opinion but I really like the vortex defender ccw
Not sure why that would be an unpopular opinion?! Vortex are great optics and lifetime warranty. I have the Defender ST on my Echelon 4.0c and it is fantastic! :s0155:
