Man, we need to talk....(just busting chops as you don't have anything to do with the issues I have)......I have a million miles in Kenworths and I have been driving 2021 models and this grey 2024 model after a couple decades of not driving. The last trucks I drove previously were 90's models. These new trucks have more glitches in them than I can handle. The climate controls never work right, the emission crap never works right, the computer updates to keep your lights working right are insane. My last logging truck would never turn on the defroster, the local dealer could not get parts and then told me it was working after having the truck for four days. I picked it up and it quit before I left the parking lot. I had one logging truck that the parking lights stayed on the truck only when you drove, this new one's lights will just stop working, and other lighting issues that are all computer issues.
Who ever decided it was a thing to put the Jake controls in place of the trailer brake handle needs to be slapped as well. But, I will say they ride nice but good gawd do the cabs rattle with all the plastic. The factory routing of tubings to the air dryer were hung so low that snow and ice cut them all off. Lots of other parts going out prematurely. And what the heck is up with stability control? I cannot even take a corner at normal speeds and it cuts the throttle and brakes...that has to be the dumbest feature on new trucks ever...I'm the driver let me drive!!!
I love Kenworth trucks but why cannot a 5'8" tall guy not have to have the seat rubbing the back wall in a regular cab?!!! Now, Pete's are just as bad with that too.
My first Kenworth log truck was a 1969 A model. My last was a 1989 T800 then I skipped a few years and got into the 2021's. Man did I miss a lot in there.
I would love to see more manual features in the trucks and not so much computer controlled stuff. I also hate the drive by wire throttles and the hydraulic/air clutch pedals with their lack of free play feel in the pedal and the 1/4" of throw from released to engaged. I was a driving instructor and that clutch cost me a broken elbow when the students could not work such a short throw to engage. My student bounced a wheelie and broke my elbow on the grab bar.
My boss is ordering another new Kenworth currently.
It's crazy...truck industry is going through what the car industry did 10-15 years ago...automate everything, everything is run by a different computer module, need $10k worth of software just to diag stuff....
And it's everyone...I did Freightliners for almost 14 years before moving to KW...similar issues, different badge.
Fun part is when you have to tell someone their turbo is $10k, oh, and that doesnt come with an actuator, thatll be another $1800....

My Pete's turbo is original with 560k miles.....we just put in the third actuator and yes the price was $1800. Did a starter recently as well. When I got out of trucking in the early 2000's I drove and serviced our fleet of six. We had trucks going 900k on mostly original equipment. This Pete had been freshened up with an in frame around 500k. My 2021 had pulleys going out, air bag suspension controls going bad and other stuff all with under 20k on the odometer. Ah Freightliner. No matter the configuration they are all garbage trucks.
I worked in the prototype shop for several years and saw just how bad it was. When you have to put a shower cap on the electrical center to keep the water leaks from shorting it out you know you have some quality engineering!!
When 10% of your first year's production of a new model comes back for warranty due to electrical fires you are on top of your game!!

I was a truck inspector for 25 years and I can confirm Freightliners were by far the trucks with the most issues. Half of their issues were simple poor routing of lines and fittings causing issues and the other half just poor quality parts. Their suspensions looked a lot like one that Internationals ran but the freight liners broke and the Internationals didn't. Every year of Freightliners had issues. I was around and working for the agency that found out why the early 2000 models all had front spring hangers coming loose. And the front steering air hoses that died before 400k. I place so many truck out of service for those two things along to bankrupt a single company. I want to say it was 2004 or 2007 models that routed air lines next to the fan shroud that rubbed them through.

I worked at Corp 2, but heard all about it. And don't forget the ones that caught fire at the lot down the street. Tried to blame that on vandals!!

Small world, I was at 3 for a bit then 12 and then over to McCoy...wouldn't have minded staying, but was a contractor and missed the boat for a "permanent" position when I got shuffled around...was funny, when I gave my notice I was asked "what can we do to make you stay?" I'm like, uhhhh maybe a full time position?? "Oh, well....good luck then!" Still cracks me up.
Hey man, I appreciate yall drivers for doing what you do. The modern conveniences and quality of life we enjoy wouldn't happen without you, and damned if my back could take sitting in the seat and grinding gears the way yall do. No sarcasm here, seriously, thanks!

Having a few days at the coast. The weather is amazing.
I used to make fun of these little trucks, that was until I had a chance to drive one and now I'm jealous. I absolutely love my new(ish) Alumiduty but it really drives like like a 1 ton truck. Great picture on the beach already!! Heres a pic of mine on the beach, we don't have no pavement princess either!

My 1993 F-250 XLT rides like a Cadillac on the highway, even with semi-traction tires. It was better with the Gemtop canopy on it, but it got smashed in a fir tree branch dump during a wind storm.
Yep, the double wishbone suspension was a b!tch to work on but provided a great ride.

2011 Nissan Pathfinder. Would like some better gas mileage but this is paid off and its been good to me.
