It just dawned on me that a manufacturer date of <1976 qualifies.

July 4 2026 is fast approaching. Who members 'Bicentennial Minutes' in 1976.
Where did 50 years go?

Got my M81 home and dolled up a bit. After getting it back and doing a little homework, I've determined it's had some old school customizing (versus factory), checkering, era recoil pad, and a Williams aperture rear sight. I added a Lyman hooded globe front (has 8 inserts) to enhance the sight picture and have the correct barrel shroud sling swivel inbound. Huntin for the right cheek rest/shell holder, I think I'll go with leather basket weave to accompany a neat old sling I've got. It's a fancy carry sling versus hunting/shooting sling, since it's going to be a range toy shot from a Lead Slead. PAX

1917 vintage Mannlicher-Schoenauer mdl 1908 carbine with an 8x57 chamber. Has a nice piece of old glass on it, which I had professionally cleaned, in a period correct G & H side mount, AND the Lyman 36 aperture sight. With the cleaning rods in the butt, and all in good working order.
A real thumper. I got 1.5" groups at 100yds with moderate modern 170gr loads, although it was not easy. Lock time is leisurely being kind, and the massive striker assembly disturbs the entire piece before it goes bang. Recoil and report were brutal, really rocked me such that people were wondering what I was shooting.
Lead bullets over 14gr of Unique on the other hand is tons O fun to just screw around with.
But still, its a joy in the hands. Very light and balances nicely, shoulders easily, and points like a wand.
