A friend cleaning out a garage on a piece of property he bought, found this. No idea what this is/was. (besides being a rifle stock B4 you go there..) Looks like a homeowner modified something from WWII.
Can anyone please help identify it? I say modified because the front swivel screw isn't properly centered and to me, it looks like the owner did some homemade beveling on the fore end. Plus, the front swivel screw would hit the barrel if it was there. The back screw on the front swivel has been butchered down.
The 'ONLY' marking I can find is a large K on the left side notch where 'maybe' a bolt handle came down? The white marks on the butt are from tape, just ignore them.

Overall length is right at 28"
Center to center bottom plate holes is 7-5/8" with a steel liner tube in the rear hole
Center to center on the stocks 2 side lugs is 4-11/16"
Buttstock plate is 4-11/16" tall, 1-3/4" @ the widest point, runs forward 1-1/4" at the top with 1 screw in it & has a slight roll going forward at the bottom. The buttstock screw is 1-1/4" from the bottom of the plate.
The opening steel circular plate on the buttstock is 15/16" The hole goes down 6-1/4" and has a shelf/shoulder at 4-1/2"
There's a 2nd hole right below the one above ^^ that goes down 5-1/4"

Is that really a cut out/relief for a left handed bolt?

Because if it is.... Well, I don't know of any country that issued left handed bolt action rifles to their front line troops.

Maybe.....Bubba has his way with it at some time?

Aloha, Mark

PS.....though the relief in the stock, in that position, may/might just be to give some clearance to operate some other sort of leaver or bolt release or magazine cut off. But, I'm guessing.

When I first saw the title, I thought this was gonna be of some critter found in the floor plumbing of someone's outbuilding.
I was all atwitter at seeing what might have crawled out of the ooze, but alas, it was not to be... :(

Cutout looks like a factory cut to me. Too clean to be a home made job. (given the other hack jobs on it)

Looks like a 1903 stock, front end off though?
1903 what?

Dan

1903 or 1903a3 Springfield C stock it appears. Left side relief is for the magazine cutoff. Been cut down for a sporter but butt plate and rear sling loop are still original.

That is bubba'd 1903 stock. The cut on the left side was for the cutoff to control how far the boIt went back in the action, for single shot, rounds from the magazine or to remove the bolt from the rest of the action.

Owner said give it away.
Moeca is 1st in line if you want it cause you're 15 miles away. If he doesn't want it, it's any one who wants it. & I'm NOT paying to ship it. So there...:p

Appreciate the offer happy I could help. I'd be happy to take it off your hands if no one else could use it. I'd only be after the plate and swivel for a couple project guns.

PM coming your way. Guess I'll have to pay up on that beer.. :)
