Trump waffling on "gun control"? Who could have possibly seen that coming? Other than anyone that's actually paying attention that is.
Granted, he's better than the alternative, but still seems to be susceptible to the usual politician's hand wringing knee jerk reaction of "we have to do something". I think he just pays lip service to the 2nd amendment because it's an issue with his base and therefore it's politically expedient for him to do so.

The sheep will cry louder for the government to "do something!! save us!! protect us!!", when they SHOULD be taking charge of their own safety... just like past judicial precedent has already inferred by ruling that the government (police, etc) have no obligation (responsibility) to protect anyone.

The passing of more bans , requirements , restrictions and the like...ain't the "something" that is going to work.
Just what that "something" actually is ...I don't truly know ...
What I do know is that yet another spin on the same solutions that have been adopted , and failed in the past , will not work.
Its just as I have said in a different thread...
A circle jerk of blame and ban....lots of motion , some self gratification , 'cause I did something...then back around again...'cause nothing was really accomplished.

How about a 10 to 30 day wait on all media reporting. Have to to do the background check, make sure just the facts are presented. Also that no agenda is being presented, nor misrepresented in the report...

Trump is a deal maker. He always has been. That's what he does. That might help on a lot of issues, but it doesn't help us here, because even when people have acted in good faith, liberty-loving Americans never get anything out of compromises on the gun control issue. I don't think he understands the particular nature (and history) of 2A infringements, and views this as any other deal-making scenario. ie. "Eh, bumpstocks, suppressors... who needs 'em?"
As others have said, the alternatives would have been worse, but the pressure is high and would have been high on anyone in office to 'do something'. How many RINOs have folded on red-flag laws in various states? It also doesn't help when you hear '90% of gun owners want stronger background checks and no private sales and ...'. Doesn't matter if it's untrue. It sounds like a fringe group he'd be protecting, so not worth it.
In virtually every newspaper of any major city, on any given day, you can find an op-ed written by a vet or a hunter they found somewhere who says "I know a lot about guns... or I served... and we have no need for 'assault weapons'" or "the last round I fired or ever needed to fire was when I left the rice paddies of Vietnam". They use logical fallacies (all hunters = 2A defenders or all vets = understand the Constitution, 2A, civilian weapons... and neither would ever mistake needs vs. rights). Sadly it works often-times.

I have never had blind faith in any politician, they are going to make promises to get elected (re-elected) and break some promises no matter how much they touted being Pro2A. It's Politics.
What we need to do is chastise him for his decisions on SM to let him know he bubblegumed up!!! And give some direction on what he should have done and fix his mistakes.

Maybe so. One of the few things that put me firmly in trump's corner was the hope that he wasn't a career politician and therefore wouldn't play those games.

He's always been a guy that maneuvers. IMO Politics of being in office are unavoidable. I think he is maneuvering now... since he is under extreme pressure to "do something", he is again giving lip service, bump-stock ban being the exception. I've been surprised many times at the results of objectionable things like tariffs that are used as a wedge to get action or concessions... so I'm hoping that indeed he is using the "poison pill" to propose things that he knows won't pass. It's what Congress does on a lot of issues. This will buy him some relief from the "do something" uproar, but will also buy him some animosity from the 2A supporters.
