If you feel good about the deal then do it. I find recent production 870's to be just as good as anything else. I don't buy into the "early production is the best" policy but hey, that's just me. I'm no expert. IMHO, if it goes boom when needed, its a good shotgun.
 
Just my .02 here....

None of the "tactical" crapola on that 870 is likely to make any difference if your plan is to just stick it in a closet and rely upon on it for home defense. You will be just as well protected by a plain-jane 870 Express like mine; wooden furniture, the standard 4 round magazine, an 18.5" barrel and a $5.99 Uncle Mikes elastic sleeve on the buttstock to hold extra shells. Were it me, I would keep the G26 and save up my pennies for a more affordable, no-frills shotgun.
