I went to a local gun store and saw around 50,000 primers. They even had 10,000 small pistol primers. I thought I hit the jackpot. Then I noticed the $500 price tag on boxes of 5000. Is this the future? I've never before seen $100/K primers before. It's more than many of the bullets I use.

I do believe that's what's referred to as gouging, especially when there's no earthly reason for these shortages, other than a bunch of foolish people thinking the end is nigh . Geez, people, it's a damned virus, not the Zombie Apocalypse, and you can't shoot a virus ! If any of my "local" gun stores start doing the same sort of pricing, I'll definitely be taking my money and business elsewhere. Later.

I don't think it's the permanent future. Prices are crazy across the board at the moment. Uncertainty due to an election year, covid, and the blm stunts are driving demand. It will pass, as did the crazy 2012, and 2016 prices.

Tell people the name of the store so the rubes won't have any money left thereby reducing the field of competition for the rest of us.

Hope this is ok to share but I just bought 1,000 Federal large pistol (#150) primers 10 trays of 100, at MidwayUSA for $35.99...limit one. Plus ship and hazmat to Oregon was $65.00.

Not bad in the China virus era but Double four months ago prices if you could find these locally...

Get them while you can

Wow, so primers are a dime each? There's no words...

Order online from Sportsman's Warehouse and pick up at a local store if you have one. Took a couple weeks to arrive, but I got 2K small pistol primers for about $24 per thousand about 2 weeks ago. No shipping or hazmat. Plus picked up another 800 that were available in the store when I arrived for my order.

I will never forget Sandy Hook. I lived through the aftermath. I was reduced to looking for unspent cartridges in the woods, at different shooting locations. I would pull the bullets. This was all I could do to reload. Primers, Powder, and cartridges could not be found for love or money.
So now, I gloat! I saw it coming this time! I went out, months ago and spent about $2,000.00 On reloading components. At first, ammo and components remained on the shelves. I thought I was an alarmist at times. But now, that feeling is replaced with knowing I did the right thing.
Every time I go to the likes of Bi-Mart, I check for primers. There are none.

I adhere to the get it while you can philosophy except when the prices are outrageous. I'd expect $30-$35 right now. I've got alerts set at the sportsman's site, they aren't currently accepting back orders.

I did the same, CCI small pistol primers $24/1000... Just keep searching the web sites and order when they're available...

I just checked online. There prices are unbeatable! only one problem. They have no primers, and they are not taking backorders.

You really think this is because of the virus? It may have started that way, but now it has a lot more to do with the fact that the media and thousands of radicals are working mightily toward a socialist revolution against the US! Ya think?

Large rifle magnum primers are available at powder Valley. Anybody have input on using magnum instead of regular "Large Rifle" and backing off a 11/2 +/- grains powder?
