Two dead endangered whales were dislodged from the hull of an Australian destroyer after the warship docked in San Diego last weekend, according to the Royal Australian Navy.

How exactly does not one but TWO large whales become stuck to the hull of a ship like that? I mean, is there anything even under there for them to wedge in on? Isn't it pretty smooth?

Barnacles, propellor shafts, the fins ahead of the rudders, maybe other things , rotting flesh and blubber being like glue? Didn't say where on the hull...

Examples of barnacles fouling large hulls. With that illustration above, it wouldn't surprise me if the whales were stuck to the chines or the shafts covering the propellor shafts..
