I just saw this and I thought about putting this on NWFA to help out people on fire prevention, safety. and water storage.
Since the last big brush fire in North or Newberg mountains which was pretty close to us, I thought about building a 5,000 gallon water container with rainwater catchment in my house. At the same time it has to be a space saver. Please chime in if you have ideas and also fire prevention and safety tips.
If moderator wish to rename or put this on a better spot, please do so.

Word of advice... I believe that if the State of Oregon catches wind of you making something that large for rain water catchment (especially without all the prerequisite permits and environmental impact studies, and such), they'll fine you and make you tear it down.

I have a skid that I put together that incudes an IBC tote with an engine driven water pump and 100' fire hose. It's assembled on a custom pallet that I can lift into the bed of the truck or my 5x9 utility trailer with the tractor.

I put it together mostly as a first line of defense for the remote property. There is a fire station about 3.5 miles away.

Once the cabin is built, I'm going to put together a system using some portable sprinklers to wet around it should something blaze up nearby.

Keeping a defensible space around important structures, cutting low hanging tree branches, trimming dead grass and cutting fire breaks goes a long way.

Good to know. I better ask them for guidelines. Thanks!

I was looking at the water reserve calculations I need. Here in Oregon its 2,500 gallons dues to the weather for me, my wife and my kitty. That North newberg fire we had over 5 years ago. that was really scary. I was out all the time watering my house.
BTW: This is the last week for our fundraiser. I better get on it.
