Right after I had Covid I went to the doctor and she set me up with a Shingles shot . I'm over 50 and have seen people with Shingles absolutely suffer so I'm on it . 2 shot regimen . First time wasn't too bad. Like geting punched in the arm for a few days. Second shot a few months later was much worse. Man I was wiped out. Fever and I hardly ever get those and flu symptoms for a day but it went away. OK now I guess I wont get shingles. Yay. Anyway I have suffered with canker sores since i was a kid. There hasnt been a month that has gone by for as long as I can remember that I havent had painful canker sores pop up somewhere in my mouth. Ive tried every supposed cure.Nothing works. I asked my dentist if theres anything that would help and he told me it was a virus and they werent really sure what it was and there was no real cure. Not stress, not vitamin a deficiency etc. So here I am 6 months later and I have been completely canker sore free since my first shingles shot. This has literally changed my life.

Huh. Interesting.

I had the shingles shots and neither had any real side effects. My brother actually had shingles and said it was bad.

From what I had read, for vaccines that have "booster" second shots, it is the second one some people react to.

So far I do not react to vaccine shots.

Yeah my Step Dad had a minor bout with shingles and pretty much said if he gets it again he'll end himself it was so bad.
He had the shingles shot but it only lasts so long and you can get it after a while.

I've also had canker sores my whole life. Since I can remember. Now my kids get them and that's what hurts me.

Doctors never knew crap about them, but I did get better info from my dentist.

Alot of it has to do with diet.

Now as an adult I rarely get them.

i need to get the shingles shot. :( Docs been bugging me about it. I'm not opposed to it, I just put it off. I hear there's a shortage of it sometimes. I wonder if I DID get it if I'd get my sense of taste/smell back? Or maybe the tinnitus would stop?

Need to get 'er done.

When I was younger....I had a very stressful job. Yup....I also fell victim to shingles (aka: a form of herpes).

Eeee....gif

I wouldn't want to get it again.

Anyway....the last time I inquired about the shots. The place where I intended to get them said that they had shot #1 but not shot #2. OMG.....such is the "supply chain" I guess. Anyway....I've forgotten about that project. Thanks for reminding me.

Aloha, Mark

Throughout my life I've gotten all the recommended vaccines and never noticed the slightest side effects. Both the first and second shingles shots put me in bed for a day and a half with most of the known side effects: pain in my arm where the shot was administered, tiredness, shivering, headache. It was pretty bad, but still worth it.

I got "vaccinated" the old fashion way. I survived the diseases! Well, not polio, we got that vaccine with a little bump injected under the skin. Later some years, 'bout 14 yo, got a sugar cube with the polio vaccine in it.

The only thing I ever experienced that stop my tinnitus was a shot of lidocaine, and that was temporary - it is a side effect of some people. I didn't know what was happening but I knew it was strange. In a few seconds I figured it out - my tinnitus disappeared! The anesthesiologist said it is a common side effect. Unfortunately it only lasted about 30-40 minutes; when I woke up from the propofol anesthesia the tinnitus was back. :( I have heard some people have it injected into their ears somehow.

I live with the tinnitus fine. To live any other way would mean I'd become stark raving mad. I would like my sense of taste and smell back. I like to eat. I like to cook my own everything. Dinners can be disappointing now.

My taste came back after a month. During that month I was eating a lot of habanero sauce and jalapenos. Stuff I couldn't possibly touch now.

Interesting! we think canker sores are inflammatory like rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis since they are much more prominent in patients with conditions like lupus. Perhaps you jolted your immune system just right to tell them to leave your mouth alone

At least its not MAGIC syndrome (Mouth And Genital ulcers with Inflamed Cartilage syndrome) :)

Shingles vaccine is about 85% effective in reducing the chance of getting it. It is well worth it since shingles has a chance to be extremely painful for even months after the infection. I have a patient right now who had shingles on his face and 8 months later he still cant open his eye without having searing pain from the nerve damage the shingles did.

Never in my life had shingles.....VA asked if I wanted a shingles vac shot. They recommended I get it so I did.

A few days later I got a lumpy rash on my right side just above my belt line. Went in to get it checked and was told it was shingles.....a reaction to the shot I had just taken. Said a number of vets given the shot had developed the same reaction.

Post not meant to slam the Vets Admin.
