last night I was watching the news and while clearing land for an exibet at Washington Park they discovered bones in an old cemetery. It turns out it was a cemetery from an old "Poor Farm", which was a place where the poor could go work for a meal or a bunk for the night. I thought to myself,"what a good idea WORKING FOR THIER BENIFITS!

My dad when he was mayor of a small town in W. WA during the mid 60s had the man of a family on welfare clean ditches and cut grass on city right of way. Cause back then the welfare payment came out of the city's coffers and there were less than 1,000 people in the town. He caught some guff for it but he didn't back down.
Dad was conservative Democrat back when they weren't extinct!

Couldn't happen today legally.

The gov/IRS would show up to classify the poor worker as an employee and minimum wage laws, all sort of withholding, workers comp. Montasanto would somehow get involved. Then OSHA. The farmer would have to get liability insurance and give the workers benefits, health care. Workers would of course get specified breaks and need to know their rights, posters would be required in the barn detailing each workers rights.

Small Employers (Less than 25 employees)

Small Oregon employers need to provide the following postings:
1) Oregon State Minimum Wage poster
2) Oregon OSHA poster
3) Federal Minimum Wage poster
4) "EEO is the Law" poster
5) Federal Polygraph Protection Notice
6) Federal USERRA (military rights) poster

Agricultural Employers

In addition to most of the postings listed for large employers, agricultural employers need to display the following additional notices:
1) Migrant & Seasonal Agricultural Worker Protection Act Poster
2) Field Sanitation Notice
3) "Protect yourself from pesticides" Poster
4) BOLI Notice to Agricultural Employees

Handicap facilities would have to be built.

Maybe the poor workers would be classified as independent contractors and then even more paperwork and regulation.

It is unlawful in the US to help someone out via employment like this, heck its illegal in many states just to FEED the homeless. The Greater Depression is going to be a doozy this time around.

In the Great Depression, the USA was one giant farm and people had a HEART and an incredible work ethic. They cared about their neighbor. Police and government workers were there to serve and protect, not club you into the ground.

Even so, 7-9 million starved to death. This time around deaths will increase by a factor of ten or more. We are a nation conquered by control freaks and traitors, and a populace that cares more about Miley Cyrus than the threat of WWIII.

Other than that, enjoy the buffet.
