"Serban contacted to Miyashiro last week and told him that multiple families had reached out to him concerned that their students would lose out on classroom instruction due to being in Afghanistan, according to the Times."

Priorities. Never mind losing their heads.

So what is the big tourist attraction in Afghanistan, the goat brothels?
They used to have an attraction, Buddhas of Bamiyan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhas_of_Bamiyan) but those were destroyed by the taliban.

It is considered a very bad move because the majority of the Chinese population on this planet is of the Buddhist fate and by doing so, they have set themselves up as an enemy. The current communist government of China might make overtures to the taliban in order to exploit the natural resources there but this act of destruction has forever sealed their fate as they will find out eventually, the Chinese race makes an impeccable foe as they plan and execute strategies in terms of generations, not years. I look forward to the day when the Chinese setup shop in Afghasnistan and sells pork siu mai dim sum to the locals as a revenge.

I guess for the same reason people think it will be "fun" to visit N Korea. Morons abound.
If they really wanted to see all the dregs of civilization, they could join the service like some of us did.

At least then, you could really reach out and touch someone. Nothing spreads democracy like reaching the hearts and minds of our enemies... 2 & 1 of course.

El Cajon has a very large middle eastern population. The students supposedly went to visit extended family. The mind boggles, however, that they were not tuned into the upcoming exit date...or were and decided to go anyway.
