Suburban Defense, by Don Shift

This is a book that I acquired a week ago, but which I am less than half through reading. In a word, Thorough.

The author is a Ventura County, California, Sheriff's Office veteran. He has written a book that is spot on if you have ambitions for protecting your neighborhood in case of increased "civil unrest."

Some of the book chapters include Critical Event Categories, Neighbors and Defenders, Intelligence, Communications, Self-Defense Legalities, Hardening the Home, Defending Your Suburb, Fighting and Combat in a Suburb, Night Vision, Firearms and Tactical Accessories, and more.

Overall, this book is more hard core than merely confronting "mostly peaceful" protesters, this book ventures into the areas of a wild west lawlessness with no police available.

In the Neighbors and Defenders chapter, the author describes the varying types of personalities and skillsets and attitudes and biases you are likely to find in your neighborhood "Defensive team:"

When I say "defensive team, I mean people who are ready to go outside and fight if necessary. These are people who will stand watch with a gun and help contain an angry crowd or looting mob. These are your fighters — your warriors.

I can almost guarantee your group won't be a civilian facsimile of a military unit. If you have an experienced ham radio operator and a nurse, that's fantastic. On the other hand, you may have a bunch of white-collar guys who can't change a tire. Realistically appraising the strengths and weaknesses of your group is important.

Don't wait until it's too late, start tire changing training immediately! :D

But a very well written, researched, and organized book. 👍

Is there a book for me?

If civil unrest happens then I have a couple good neighbors.

The liberal ones are on their own unless it's china that invades…

Nice. Sounds good. Everyone should read a book or two like that.
