A novel idea but I suspect the average person would come up short on both jumper cables and a pencil if actually needed - and most likely the knowledge this idea even exists. I'll have to side with the carry a lighter (or matches) crowd. The highway flare is a great idea also. In my backpacking days one was always black taped to my pack frame in case of an 'emergency'.

Many don't realize that a "pencil lead" is not lead. But if you ever need a quick coating of graphite or graphite powder on something, there you have it.

It's ok, I'm gonna freeze to death, but I have my plastic Bic pen I can write my last will and testament with. That's what I get for going high tech.
