First threads I've milled with a single point thread mill, came out good. A 5in stick out 3/32 was sketchy, didn't like lots of rippers.
2 more OPs to go.

Finished one out , so far everything fits.
Having already printed a functional copy makes for zero scrap... working on a better low cost bolt solution, a custom upper is easier than a custom bcg.

In the latest dive down the ol rabbit hole... Now I'm convinced I can stuff a 10 BCG and barrel into a 15 sized lower. So far I haven't hit a dead end. A 10 hand guard will be needed as well.

Unlike the G540 and steppers I'll be using ether cat.
I did manage to get mine "serviced" and on a stand.

I remember the first time I single pointed those threads.
It was on way too small a lathe with a tool made from a broken tap.

My first (and only) mill conversion was a old Mighty CNC mustang 12x30? VMC. The controls died after 12years of running and we were cutting it up for scrap. I ran it for years on a G540 , wasn't fast rapids but it made some decent production parts.
AC servos from Clearpath were the easiest and best I've ever built with.
I grew up in a CNC shop, I got our first CAD/CAM running in 98/99. So when I started playing with mach3 over 10 years ago it was like somebody unlocked all the doors and I started building all kinds of stuff.

It's easy when you have hand me down 20x40 CNC mills lol. Doing a 2fer, should make it easier to setup and bore the barrel hole. It's a ambitious project, hoping Pioneer has no problem slipping in the upper with my parts... still not an FFL part. Either that or I read more on home hard anodizing.

So far everything functions, feeds both sides. Still white, not sure if I'm going to slip it in a type 3 hardcoat batch (takes many weeks) or Cerakote elite and maybe microslick for the insides.

Payoff day! Titanium elite series Cerkote, Microslick on BC, some grinding on the bolt catch, reshaping of the hammer, etc etc. Welcome to custom guns.
If I had to do it all over I'd make the lower buffer tower a bit taller so I could make the upper taller for less mods.
Besides some light strikes it's operational. Really needs a plug for.the gas key slot. Elite series plus microslick on the BC seems to be working.
