So I have inherited some shotguns from my father and I am posting them for sale. I'm not sure how to respond to questions about chokes (modified, improved, etc.). I know I have several chokes as separate pieces in a box that I know attach using the choke wrenches, which are scattered within the box.

I need a 101 on shotgun chokes. What's your favorite resource on this topic and what would you have to say about how to identify which choke it is?

Thanks.

This chart I've saved helps ID the notches that are often found on chokes to show what kind they are and the amount of constriction it has and the loads that can be used. Sometimes the manufacturer also has specs, especially if they are custom made by someone like Briley in TX.

Hi Greg, there are large number of different choke manufactures. Some will interchange, online there is a website called Waterfowl choke. They list manufactures that interchange. There is a wealth of information on chokes online. Oh, by the way did you sell the Colt commander. Thanks, Buckey

Hey Buckey. Thanks for the tip on that website. I'll check it out. I did just sell that Colt. Sold it last week.
