What do you mean by "powerful"? A standard AR15 in .556 caliber is good. My wife has the Sig Sauer M400 Rose. She absolutely loves it.

I have a 22 and I'm wanting something bigger. I do love Sig Sauer. Is your wife small? That's the biggest issue for me. Finding something that fits my body comfortably.

If you are not set on a semi automatic. Ruger makes a good line of Compact rifles that fit people of small stature.

Otherwise, almost any AR15 with an adjustable stock can fit small people, too.

Next it will be helpful to know what you want the rifle for? Hunting? Self Defense?

A small frame would do well with a 243 caliber bolt action for hunting. A 223 caliber AR15 carbine, for self defense with a collapsible stock would allow you to fit it exactly to you.

What are you wanting to do with this rifle...?
Are there action types that you like or prefer...?
Wood stocks...do you like those or do you like synthetic...?
Blued metal ..or stainless...?

Lots of questions ....but it is difficult to offer a suggestion without knowing any of the above.

My when in doubt , it is difficult to beat , answer...
Is some sort of .308 bolt action rifle.

However...that may be far off the mark here....with the lack of details.

My 18 year old daughter loves to shoot one of the two 50 Beowulf's in the collection. @brandijean do you like guns that recoil or prefer something that doesn't kick much? A good muzzle brake can mitigate the recoil but the shooter and bystanders pay for it with additional noise. My favorite gun to plink with is a bolt action 223 Savage with a great trigger. I enjoy shooting larger calibers too but me being a cheap a$$ don't like to use up all my reloading components. If you plan on buying all your ammo and not reloading buy something chambered in a cartridge that is affordable (to you) and readily available. It's not fun to want to shoot but can't afford it or find any ammo.

My wife loves an AR.

Loud, low kick, adjustable stocks, multiple calibers.

Get one before you can't and get a bolt or level rifle later.

So many memes! I am a small human so I'm looking for recommendations based on that info.
That is not a lot of info to go on, or rather that does not narrow down the list of what is suitable by much at all. So far all I can recommend is you look for something with a short or adjustable length of pull (the distance from the butt plate to the trigger). Lots of rifles come stock with a short length of pull, everything from youth rifles to stock cold war comblock stuff. Most modern sporting rifles will have adjustable stocks, so your standard AR-15, SIG MCX, Bren 2/3 (when available) will all mostly come stock with something that will likely fit you.

Pistol Caliber Carbines are another option you could consider. They are like rifles, but usually cheaper to shoot. They have less power than a rifle, but if all you want is range time they are a great option.

On the other hand if you want full power rifles you may be looking at more custom options to find something that fits well, or you may find that standard lengths of pull found in things like the AR-10 or FAL work just fine for you, small as you may be, when in shooting positions like prone or from a bench.

Then there are bullpups, bolt actions, lever guns. . .

And we have not even considered budget, which may or may not eliminate many of the options listed above (especially the collectible militaria).

This is why pretty much every comment here is some variation of "we need more details," because at this point anyone here could name almost any gun and that would fit some presumed use case for you, making the exercise of making a recommendation basically random.

What is your use case? Defensive rifle? Range toy? Future hunting rifle? Do you like semi-auto or manual arms? Cheap to shoot or highly niche? Are you recoil shy or do you like thumpers? Is storage space a consideration? Do you want an extensible platform you can play with and modify, or do you want the whole package out of the box? You may not know the answers to all these questions, but getting some kind of baseline will be necessary to get past people just naming their favorite guns.

I would suggest starting off with a bolt action rifle. Cz made a small bolt action, model 527 that would be perfect. You would need to shop for a used one or their new model 600 may work as well. Howa and Ruger make short action models also and I'd suggest something like 223 or 7.62x39 as an introduction to high powered rifles. First thing you'll want to do is figure out what length of pull fits you. Here's a video to figure that out. You can do this using your existing rifle. Once you know what your size is you can look and see who builds a stock in that length. Some manufacturers offer youth sizes with shorter lengths of pull as well so look for youth models.
