Hey, I've never shot competitively, and always had to qualify with my hot duty ammunition. Can I bring, and use 'reduced report' subsonic ammunition, or must I use full powered without penalty? Any useful advice for a newby other than to bring Sig pistols Im already comfortable with?

This will entirely depend on the competition. Some require that you make proper "power factor" and others just that you have the proper caliber for your class. You will have to let us know which competition you are entering as the rules will tell you what is expected from your ammo.

I guess you got me there - I didn't see anything other than registering as a first time competitor, and what looked like 4 divisions - P320 iron sight & optics, P365 iron sights & optics, P322 iron & optics, and other than SIG iron & optics... and it said to show up with 2 boxes of ammo...

There are no "power factor" requirements that I'm aware of with the Sig match. Bring the ammo/Sig pistol you want to shoot. It's a low key match with very friendly Sig staff. Let the Range Officer at each stage that you are new to competitive shooting and they will get you all squared away. Don't overthink it. You'll have a great time.

You can also shoot non Sig guns, but you won't be eligible for prizes. I don't believe you need to be a ShootSig member either.

Here can find info on the stages, etc. You'll need a Practiscore account to register.

I read all of that, and all of the rules and didn't see any mention of it. I was afraid I'd show up with subsonic ammo and have violated some unspoken rule, or other unexpected faux pax opening me to ridecule or something.
If they didn't specifically say in the rules that subsonic ammo was not allowed, then that is on them. That said, you won't have any issues.

Just grab a couple boxes of your favorite range ammo and call it good. No sense burning up your sub sonic stuff.
Oh, and a warning! Shooting matches like this can become addictive! Next thing ya know you'll be knee deep in USPSA and IDPA. Who knows, you might go clear over to the dark side and buy a Glock so you can shoot in some of the Glocks only matches!!!

Think of Shoot Sig as a marketing event more than a true shooting competition. The goal being to support the shooting sports by bringing in new shooter's and in turn, creating new customers. For the Sig enthusiast or more seasoned competitor, there's a chance to win prizes such as guns and more. For the newbie, they have the chance to compete in a very relaxed and non intimidating atmosphere. Much the same that Glock does with their GSSF matches.

As to feeling ridiculed, I have yet to see any of that. Generally speaking and for the most part, competitive shooters are very friendly and accommodating in helping out their fellow competitors, whether new or
experienced.

I got started with competition shooting right here on the forum. I was accepted with open arms and shown "the ropes". In the years following, I've done the same and helped folks here on the forum get their feet wet in shooting speed steel matches….
