Other State Serial numbers

I have a H&R 38 cal top break that is patented 1887. I have been hunting for serial numbers for H&R but can find them back to 1940.
Would anyone know where i can look on line to find them.

Prior to 1968, not all firearms had serial numbers. It wasn't required by Federal Law.

This one does. It's 17XX so it's a early production and it's hard to find parts for it.
