AMEN!(Bonus; no eternal damnation for modifying a classic scattergun.)

I know nothing about the Lynx. So, I was looking to acquire the base gun today or perhaps this weekend. Farting around on Gunbroker and I'm kind of torn between two options: Lynx-12 or Mossberg 990. They both have pluses and minuses.
Lynx-12:
Mossberg 990:
- Box-fed. (I believe Saiga compatible.)
- Uses standard AK furniture, so wood would be certainly do-able.
- Prices I'm seeing are in the ~$600—700 zone.
- After Form 1, I would have to have the barrel shortened and engraved.
Anywho, both are interesting and would work. I think the first has the better features, but would be more trouble to SBS. The latter would be easier to turn into a shorty, but it uses a fixed magazine, and costs a tad more. I've had generally good results with Mossberg; the Lynx is a completely unknown quantity, though there has been positive feedback here.
- Tube-fed.
- Uses readily available 500/590 stocks.
- Prices I'm seeing on this one are ~$800—$1,000.
- After Form 1, it would just be added a stock and engraving. I'd like to have both wood stock and forend, but I'm not sure what, if anything, would work. (Though wood would be prefered, I could live with polymer and metal in this case.)
What say you on either of these options? Better idea? Thanks!![]()
$450 for new is a good price imo. Especially since they are discontinued and prices for most guns have went up a bit since then also. Thanks guy.
I'm not seeing many of the Lynx models. The prices above were for NIB specimens. Since posting, I found a couple more new ones in the $450-range, which ain't bad. How difficult is it to remove the barrel?
Roger that on the Mossberg. They put out a solid, no frills, piece, so I'm not surprised they run well.
Was back at lab today, so stopped at pawn shop. Alas, they no have the Mossberg 990 any more. I did spy a Uzi carbine that looked ever so tempting for an SBR candidate, but a total nutbag was talking the ear off of the shopkeep and after farting around a bit, I decided to bail.I saw one in pawn shop in city last time was up there; will be headed back to lab next week, so will see if still has.

Lynx's are good shotguns. I'd say in many ways better than Saigas and I say that as a guy who made good money working on Saigas and has never made a dime working on lynx's. Unfortunately theyre not 229 bucks any more but I do own one. Put a bi folder bulgarian stock on it and that is definitely something I want to undo. That that HURTS to shoot.Welp, my follow up question to Mossberg was ignored. And Boyd's couldn't be bothered to reply at all. So I still don't if wood furniture is a go for the 990. I exchanged some PMs with Cotton Branch on Monday, but haven't heard further after asking how to move forward with one of the guns (a Remington 11) they already have in stock.
So, kinda kicking around the Lynx 12 and install wood furniture, and have it shortened after registered. I've found one for five c-notes that could work. (On that note, I recall @wired has done a lot of work with AK pattern firearms. Curious on his thoughts on that or the projected outline in the OP in general.)
Kalash as in kalashnicarver? Thanks much @wired. Are Kalash stocks "plug and play" or does it require modification?
No, I mean ordinary AK-47 type furniture. (Sorry, was using shorthand.)Kalash as in kalashnicarver?
Yes it does except for the forend and the usual saiga parts workNo, I mean ordinary AK-47 type furniture. (Sorry, was using shorthand.)
I Think one of those is for sale here at NWFA....On interesting possibility ... I found surplus, 14" barrel, Remington 11-87 Police short barrel shotguns for sale. Acquire, send to FFL/SOT, transfer, then replace with wood stocks? At least a thought I'm kicking around.
