My pickup is altogether missing the console between the seats, so I've been looking at the consoles this outfit makes:

I am thinking that will go in the "jump seats" area that are behind the passenger seats of the XCab pickup. All plastic, but somewhat hidden. Probably only going to have a rifle in it when traveling and I am with the pickup. Somehow fasten it down so it doesn't come loose if I get in an accident.

I had one of those steel Tuffy consoles. Now that you bring it up, I believe that was the name. If they are still built like the one I had, it would be extremely difficult to break into.

I've never bought a bad product from Tuffy. I've currently got a locking console and glove box in one Jeep and their under seat safe in another. I would recommend them without reservation.

As a few people have said, console vaults in vehicles are great.

You can get them made for just about any console if you're willing, but they are readily available in many configurations for trucks, for a variety of reasons.

Personal favorite is a version of my underseat storage that's essentially a pullout vault for my rear seats. Can put more than just your carry in there, nice for Christmas or birthday shopping if your partner is a snoop

Incidentally, locks only keep honest people honest, and most glove boxes lock. Info for the interim before you make a choice.

I've known several people to buy fingerprint or coded minisafes age bolt them to the floor behind the driver seat as well.

Problem for me is that neither my SUV nor my pickup have room enough for much of anything under the seats. I think my truck (the only US made vehicle I own) has some room - I will have to check. I know it has room behind the bench seat and there is a fold down "console" thingy.

Once I have the overland build for it, there will be room for a large secure job box in the habitat.

These are, in my opinion, a terrible idea. If they're in the vehicle, it makes it was too simple to just scoot off with the entire headrest and figure it out later.

I much prefer a smaller lockbox under the driver seat. People that get in the vehicle will see it, but it's position makes it difficult to open it forcefully with any tools in any quick manner.

I think you'd have to know about those existing. My guess is 95% of car prowls are teenage kids looking for unlocked cars. Last place they look

Figuring out where you want to store it can be a pain, but once you know it's a lot simpler to plan out.

Behind the rear bench is a good option, too, as you can usually mount to that rear wall without compromising the vehicle in a significant way.

A good amount of mountable single gun safes are pretty thin profile too.

As other folks have says, I would personally steer away from something digital in a non climate-controlled space. Too many chances for failure.

It's large enough for a holstered government model and a double mag pouch. Comfortably fits a holstered J frame and 3 speed loaders. I've used this for the past half dozen years without issue.
