I had a couple of scratches on the flats of my 1911 slide and finally got to removing them. Used a 3M Scotch Brite pad (#7414NA) with gentle strokes parallel with the brushed finish. Important, do not go back and forth, only brush in one direction, lift, reset and brush again (as if you were wiping bread crumbs of the table). After approximately 10 minutes the scratches were gone. I then used a finer pad (#7415NA) to make the brush strokes finer and closer (very close, if not identical) to the original. I can't tell a difference between the original and the treated flats. Warning: use at your own risk and never on anything but a brushed finish.
