Scope objective bell to barrel space

I just mounted a 3-10x50mm scope with "Low" Talley mounts on a Weatherby Vanguard. The angle of the objective bell is not touching the barrel, but it is close. I can see daylight and I can slide 3 dollar bills stacked in the space. Am I too close??? I love the cheek weld and my ocular lense field of view is full and where I want it.

Looks good to me, I have a similar size scope mounted at the same position on a Tikka. I haven't encountered a problem yet.

That looks fine to me as well, as long as you aren't shooting some monster overbared magnum

Thanks, I've heard stories of issues with heat or barrel flex-vibration making contact. etc.
Most people say as long as it's not actually touching that it's good. I guess I'm a worry wart.

I would probably go medium, but then again, I usually run expensive optics.

Yeah, I was trying to get it as low as possible like many say. Looks like I did . Medium would've been better. But the everything fits like a glove when I put it to my shoulder so I was trying to leave it. I've got expensive optics as well. Now that you mention it, if it was another scope I'd be remounting it.

Thats too close for me.
If its a hunting rifle you wont be able to use a scope cover there.

It's for hunting. I ordered a "push-on"cap instead of flip-up cap hoping to squeak past that problem. I guess if it doesn't fit… I must acquit. We'll see. If it doesn't work I'll get the medium rings.

In reality, it's only going to increase in height by less than 1/8", so your cheek weld should be fine. I personally would be concerned with barrel flex.

I ordered these lower rings originally planning on using a different scope. Then switched. Indecision

Agree, it would be a long expensive process to find out its why you cant get groups...

I went thru this with the last two scopes I installed, I purchased two sets of rings knowing I would be returning one of them. Its not easy selecting just the right ring height, seems like there just isnt a way to truly know without trying the rings on, so to speak.

As @TTSX said, if its not touching, its not touching. You're not likely to shoot 300 rounds in 60 seconds on a hunting rifle to heat the bbl up much.

How much does the barrel flex due to harmonics created by an explosion and a projectile moving through it at a high rate of speed? The barrel is going to flex at the natural harmonics of the barrel with those parameters. How much is more math than I'm inclined to do.

More the further from the reciever. That low, probably none to very little.
