I want to get a sat phone for use camping and kayaking. Does anyone have first hand experience with hardware and service providers that actually work in this region?

There are a few places that rent them. Might check with them of what is best in the area.

We were setup with GlobalStar equipment some years back and it had all kinds of problems. If I was to do it again, I'd go with Iridium.

Ditto what what @Helocat said; best to rent first and make sure everything works for you.

I use an in-reach GPS texter. Cheaper option. Works OK but not great.

If you would like to let us know what you found out, I 'd value the information. It has been a while since I've worked with that kind of equipment, so I am sure there has been some advances. That and depending on where the tribe lands, if remote enough, this option will be considered again. Thanks.
