Thanks all for the thoughts, etc. Most interesting.

I checked Grab-a-Gun today, but, alas, they don't appear to have the .308 version with the wood stock. Oh well, in no hurry. (And in fact are waiting on some gun acquisitions anyway.) I did see this though:

In a cartridge called .450 BM. Some little google-age results has piqued my interest. :D

Care to share? ;)
A big bore bolty is ALWAYS going to trip my trigger!
Is this .450 Bushmaster?

This is a tempting project, take a spare 1903 Springer action, shorten it a tad, and barrel it at 20 inches with Bubba brake and A-3 rear sight! Talk about handy bear medicine! :D

Sounds a bit like the 1903 Springfield experimental Cavalry Carbine...
Be neat to see for sure
Andy
I'm seriously considering it, need to have a BBQ/Root Beer Chat with our favorite 'Smith bout this idea of mine and see if it's possible. Be especially neat if it could take those AR mags too, and the Ruger Bottom metal! CRF big bore short action insanity, what's not to love!

Now, Lets set it up for a 10' blade Pig Sticker for the complete package! ;)

I have one in 308 (had two, sold one to buy a Ruger Guide in 30-06). Also have the Mossberg MPV Patrol in 308 and 5.56.

I will be buying another Ruger in 5.56 or 450BM the first chance I get. (Leaning towards the 5.56 for economics of shooting).

If anyone has the chance to get their hands on one, do it. You will not be disappointed.

I have one... despite my attempts to handload for it, I always found it to be throwing a flyer every third round. Gave it to Velzey for a trigger job and a free float... problem fixed. Now it's a sub MOA carbine with a 2-7 scout scope.

I don't like any Scout rifle that is not handy. Therefore, you must be able to grasp the gun around the action. No extended mags. I have one in a Rem model 7 with a custom barrel.
