Ruger Precision Rimfire Disappointment

Mostly my fault because I didn't realize that they come with a 30moa scope mount on them. I've tried several scopes and can't get close to on paper because of that slope. They really don't need 30 moa for a rimfire. Called them and they are willing to sell me a new rail that they don't know when it will be available. Looking online and EGW makes one but something is f'd with their site and I can't order. Can I get a set of 20 moa rings and just mount them backwards to counter the stupid slope?

@kmk1012 check out the Burris rings with pos-align inserts which you can get in different MOA offsets to counter. You could also put your money towards scope that will have the adjustment range to take advantage of the rail and get yourself out to 300 or 400 yards with that 22lr.

The Burris signature rings with inserts is what I was going to suggest also. I use these on some of my rifles and have compensated for this sort of thing with them to avoid changing a rail.

That's where I was yesterday trying to purchase, entered card info and shipping, then hit enter and……….nothing, reset to the same page. Now I'm curious about those Burris rings, seems like the best of both worlds.

I'd be interested in hearing about its performance after you get a flat rail. 30MOA rail on a precision .22lr is just a tacticool gimmick.

I've never heard of those rings, but seem like a decent alternative. If you decide to try them you might want to contact Burris to make sure that you get the correct combo to make up the 30 degrees.

Here's what it did with the 30mm Vortex scope that has fat crosshairs at 70 yards. My 13 year old son shot the one on the left. I have a super fine crosshair scope that I think I can improve these groups with as the Vortex completely covered the bullets. Thats when I found out what that 30 moa meant in the rail.

For clarification for those of us (ie. me) not entirely into the nuance of your predicament , are you saying you can't hit paper at 50 yards or 500? What ammo are you using?

I have one and have no problem from 25 to 150 yards with CCI standard velocity (nickle-size groups),100 to 250 yds with Blazer or Federal Automatch (quarter-size groups)
I Haven't tried longer ranges yet ('cuz I'd probably need a pricier scope)

( now using a 4-12 40 BSA Sweet 22 Scope 'cuz it was really, really cheap… like me)

If I put two sheets of legal size paper one above the other and aimed at the bottom paper, I'd be lucky to hit the top paper at 100 yards. Standard velocity ammo (CCI 1070 fps)

I would disagree if you want to be able to dial in your adjustment for 500 yards it is a necessity. For most folks though it is an unnecessary hurdle especially given that most people put the cheapest scope possible on rimfires. A couple of us in the long range group I shoot with are running our 22lr's out to 300m, 400m and 500m. We all run out of dial and holdover before we can get to 600m.

I don't put "cheap" scopes on anything but I understand what you're saying. 500m with a .22lr is quite the quest. I have no doubt the projectile will make it.
