Remington 721 trigger question

I'm bringing a 721 270 back to life and have a question. When the rifle is cocked, returning the safety to safe is pretty stiff. I noticed that the firing pin head moves outward a tad when returned to safe. The safety is having to overcome a bit of main spring tension. Is this normal?
