A few months ago as H&K Gun shop in Forest Grove was in its final days, I was invited to come check out the remaining selection. I jumped at the opportunity and while I was there, I crossed paths with a stainless Remington 700, chambered in 17 Remington and this Remington 700 SPS Varmint, chambered in 204 Ruger. I've got an affinity for Remington 700's and these two were coming home with me!

This 204 was in need of some attention. No idea how long it had sat there on consignment, but these SPS models never seemed to get the best finish from Remington. I've had a few over the years and all would develop a light surface rust just from sitting in the safe for a month. This one was no exception.

A call to @Vernonia MW and I had an appointment to meet with Alex and drop this thing off for some massaging. The factory 26" barrel was cut back to 20", threaded for a Surefire brake, and the brake was timed. The bolt handle was turned down for an aftermarket knob. The flimsy factory plastic stock was ditched for a unit from Manners. And lastly, everything from the barrel and action was bead blasted and given a fresh coat of Cerakote that matches the stock. To top it off, the interior of the action and the bolt were given a coat of Cerakote micro slick.

I couldn't be happier with the way this one turned out. A huge thanks to Alex for the incredible work he did on this rifle. I can't wait to get this one out and give it an introduction to the local coyote population.
