The RDS is a superior mousetrap compared to iron sights, whether or not one is superior with them is another matter. When you have done something for many years you are obviously going to be more comfortable and competent with it vs something new.
The deal with irons is, through use of peripheral vision, we auto adjust our sight alignment as the firearm is being presented, that doesn't work a RDS. That is why you see people fishing their head around for the dot. Perfecting one's grip upon presentation is the key the using a RDS.
