Based on your mission profile: 75 yard deer hunting in brush around Mt. Hood, have you considered just buying a 30-30 carbine (Win. 94, Marlin 336, etc.) which would be handy, light, and inexpensive?

Then you can take your time deciding what to do with the Model 70. It is a very nice rifle that you enjoy. Savor it!

Well I decided to keep it, clean it, and start fixing a few of the little issues...
1. Tore it down and cleaned the daylights out of it
2. got a hood for the front sight and polished the brass front site
3. Needs a firing pin
4. Needs a trigger
5. and will start looking at scopes, but thats a way off

Even after polishing the front bead its really hard for me to pick it up. I was thinking of sight paint, any suggestions?
