I am currently five days past abdominal surgery and have a four inch horizontal incision under my belly healing.

Since belts are out for the rest of the year, I am thinking about a carry sling bag or fanny pack. Instead of the gun compartment having zippers, I envision a rigid side opening covered by a flap or membrane that you could easily dive your hand in to access a pistol secured in a kydex holster.

The front of the bag would look like a standard carry pouch with a zippered section for my wallet and phone.

Anything like this come to mind?

I have a friend that delivers Medical supplies. He has two that have logos from a cancer drug company and a med devise company. He is in and out of medical facility's and has not had one person look twice at them. They sort of hide in plain sight.
When I had a series of shoulder surgeries, I found that the padded slings they put your arm in made a great place to carry my gun. I put my wallet and phone next to my body and the gun outside my arm. this had me not sweep my own arm as I draw, and kept the gun separated from anything else. I used a sticky holster in the sling. Good Luck DR

Chest holster? This company also makes. cross-body concealed carry bags.

You're welcome to borrow my Maxpidition fat boy cross body pack while you heal up…

Has a zipper but I've but full size guns in the quick access zippered pouch.

Is small enough to be light but you can pack as much esc stuff into it as you can carry comfortably.

I don't use it regularly but it definitely works for me when I need it.

*****I've never used the belt thing they show on Amazon and have no idea if I ever got it when I bought it used.

IMO something sized to accommodate a laptop is going to stand out less than a smaller sling bag.
Possibly.

I see stuff like that little cross body pack everywhere in Portland. When I am forced to go there.

I got into a concert with a handgun when I took the main flap and folded it over the concealed carry compartment once upon a time so they could search it.

Pretty much invisible unless you know and then you will know.

I appreciate your offer @Joe13 but that may be too tactical looking for my small town.

Wow, it has been awhile since I researched semi-offbody carry and things have improved a lot! A small 945 may work. I also found the inde carry Quickbag with a velcro secured pistol pouch in non-tactical colors https://indecarry.com/products/the-inde-quickbag™-b-w-check?variant=51109997707428

The Crossbreed Modular kydex holsters with flat velcro hook backs seem to be a universally accepted choice to use with these types of bags. Any other recommendations for holsters?

This is what I use in the summer when I am not wearing my vest. It will also accommodate a laptop.

Lots of places to hold a pistol and ammo. Mine is black and my old one was green. $33.99 from Amazon.

Made of cotton canvas. I use it all the time during winter. Israeli Parachute Bag.

The M-Tac Sling bag works pretty well. It can also carry a smart phone, wallet and keys without interfering with your pistol. $30, but punches above it's weight.

Have you used these?
Yes, I tend to wear shorts a lot. I got mine last summer. The only downside of a sling bag is that it made me feel a little self conscious at first that others would see it as a "murse". A few seconds later I remembered that I'm old, short, fat ugly, and don't really give a crap about what anybody thinks. Turns out that nobody gives it a second glance so I wasted those few seconds worrying about nothing.

I have an older version of this bag.

Its held up quite well over the years, ive used it for all kinds of things, day bag, carry bag, and more.

Have a velcro holster inside, makes a quick access bag with zipper that ive used when I needed a carry in the bag instead of on person...
